Lions Star Gibbs Picks Reigns vs. Punk at WrestleMania
Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs is ready for WrestleMania 40. Fresh off touching down in Las Vegas, the massive wrestling fan shared his excitement for the stacked two-night event.
Gibbs, who was spotted at last year’s WrestleMania, has been hooked on WWE since he was a child. His uncle, a big John Cena fan, first got him into the action when he was about seven or eight years old.
When asked about the most anticipated match on the card, Gibbs didn’t hesitate. He’s all in on the showdown between Roman Reigns and CM Punk.
“Just the buildup, the hype around it,” Gibbs explained. Reigns is his favorite wrestler right now, leading him to enthusiastically shout, “One’s up to the sky!”
Hypothetical Tag Team Partner?
Gibbs also weighed in on a fun hypothetical: if he could team up with anyone at WrestleMania this weekend, who would it be? His answer was immediate: Roman Reigns.
“Like off rip,” he stated. He’s ready to get in the ring and help out if Reigns needs anything, knowing he has the athletic skills to contribute.
From Georgia Tech to the NFL
The conversation touched on Gibbs’ college career, reminding fans that he started at Georgia Tech before transferring to Alabama. This led to a discussion about his incredible success as a running back duo with David Montgomery. Together, they hold the NFL record for the most games where both running backs scored a touchdown.
Gibbs admitted it was tough seeing his former partner traded to the Houston Texans. He shared a touching Instagram story with a picture of Sonic and Knuckles, symbolizing their bond. However, he noted that their offseason routine didn’t change much, as they typically don’t see each other often anyway.
Building New Chemistry
With David Montgomery now gone, Gibbs faces the challenge of building chemistry with a new running mate in Detroit’s backfield. He’s preparing for the start of OTAs (Organized Team Activities) and believes the new addition will be energetic and outgoing. Gibbs, who describes himself as more quiet and reserved, thinks this new teammate could help bring out his natural personality.
He even offered a fun comparison for his coach, Dan Campbell. Gibbs sees the Lions’ head coach having a wrestling vibe, suggesting he’d be great in the squared circle. He likened Campbell to Kane from 2002, someone who could make an impact without saying a word but could also deliver on the mic when needed.
The Fullback Canvas Tattoo
Before heading off to enjoy WrestleMania, Gibbs showed off his impressive new tattoo. Initially, he had a different design in mind, including his nickname “Sonic” at the top. However, in the days leading up to the appointment, he changed his mind and opted for a new concept.
The intricate tattoo took an intense 10 to 11 hours to complete. Gibbs described the process as a significant undertaking. He’s clearly proud of the final artwork, which has already generated a lot of buzz on social media.
With WrestleMania just over 24 hours away, Gibbs is looking forward to the spectacle. He’s ready to soak in the atmosphere and enjoy the fights. He also sent a playful message to Lions general manager Brad Holmes, jokingly saying, “If he gets in the ring, it wasn’t me.”
