Midwest Reels From Violent Tornado Outbreak

A dangerous tornado outbreak is currently unfolding across the Midwest, putting 38 million people at risk. Twisters, heavy flooding, and strong winds have slammed the region. Timelapse video shows a likely tornado tearing through Lena, Illinois, prompting the local sheriff to warn people to avoid the town entirely due to downed trees and wires.

Several other tornadoes have touched down in Illinois, leaving behind a path of destruction with damaged homes and debris scattered in the streets. In Minnesota, a large twister was captured on video moving quickly, with another close-up shot showing debris flying as it crossed a highway. Multiple funnel clouds have been seen across the state, contributing to at least 40 confirmed tornadoes in the U.S. so far this week.

Historic Flooding Grips Wisconsin

Meanwhile, Wisconsin is experiencing historic flooding after days of heavy rainfall. The National Guard has been activated as some residents resort to using kayaks to navigate flooded roads. Others are barricading their homes with sandbags to keep rising waters at bay.

Kansas is currently being hit with large hail, a significant threat as the evening progresses. In Colorado, Coors Field was unexpectedly covered in late spring snow, impacting a scheduled Dodgers-Rockies game.

Meteorologist Bill Karins Explains the Storms

“We’re in the middle of a tornado outbreak. We’ve officially had 12 reports of tornadoes so far. We’ve had a lot of wind reports and all the white dots here, large hail with a lot of these thunderstorms.”

NBC News meteorologist Bill Karins detailed the severe weather, noting that storm reports stretch from Oklahoma up into Minnesota and Wisconsin. Rochester, Minnesota, was among the hardest-hit areas.

Storms are also racing through southern Wisconsin, with numerous tornado warnings still active. Tornado warnings are also in effect for areas around Davenport, Illinois, which can expect hail and gusty winds.

Karins cautioned that while the severe weather threat will continue into tomorrow, it will not be as dangerous or widespread as the current outbreak. Isolated tornadoes, hail, and damaging winds are expected in areas like Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Charleston.

A tornado watch is in effect for Chicago and St. Louis until 11 p.m. This evening.

Iran Reopens Strait of Hormuz Amid Ceasefire

In a significant development, Iran announced it has reopened the Strait of Hormuz to all commercial vessels. This move comes less than 24 hours after a ceasefire began between Israel and Lebanon. The announcement led to market jumps and a drop in oil prices.

President Trump indicated that a final deal to end the war with Iran is imminent, potentially this weekend during peace talks in Pakistan. However, he stated that the U.S. naval blockade, which is impacting Iran’s economy, will continue until a final agreement is reached.

Cooperation and Continued Blockade

“This process should go very quickly and that most of the points are already negotiated and agreed to.”

Trump also claimed Iran is assisting the U.S. in removing sea mines from Hormuz, signaling a shift from conflict to cooperation. He further stated that Iran has agreed to indefinitely suspend its nuclear program, though Iran has not confirmed many of these claims. President Trump had also instructed Israel to halt attacks on Lebanon, stating, “Enough is enough.”

Both Israel and Hezbollah observed the ceasefire, allowing tens of thousands of Lebanese to return to their villages, many finding their homes destroyed. Despite the ceasefire, thousands of Israeli troops remain in Lebanon, with Israel’s defense minister indicating they will hold captured areas even after the ten-day ceasefire expires. Hezbollah maintains its right to fight against foreign occupation.

Timeline for Iran-U.S. Talks Uncertain

Richard Engel reported from Tel Aviv that while talks are expected to take place in Pakistan, possibly on Sunday, many details remain unconfirmed. President Trump presented the deal as finalized, but questions linger about the U.S. negotiating team and the extent of Iran’s agreement to the points discussed.

Both the U.S. and Iran have an interest in ending the war, making a swift resolution possible. However, significant negotiation may still be required to finalize an agreement.

President Trump Rallies Conservative Base

President Trump is actively working to maintain support from his base amidst growing tensions with the Pope. He addressed a Turning Point USA rally, aiming to strengthen the conservative movement, particularly among young conservatives, ahead of the midterm elections.

During his speech, Trump addressed the war in Iran, advocating for intervention in stronger terms than before. He acknowledged and directly confronted skepticism from some within his base regarding foreign intervention, emphasizing the necessity of American power and the commitment to defending the nation.

“Unlike past leaders, this administration does not apologize for American power. We are not ashamed of American might, and we do not hesitate to defend the American people… Because Iran cannot have a nuclear weapon.

It’s very simple. So do not listen to the craven and cowardly voices who tell you America needs to think small or to shrink from our duties or potential.”

Trump asserted that sometimes involvement is unavoidable for a country to remain great. He also spoke with younger conservatives, many of whom expressed trust in him but also initial skepticism about military intervention. One individual highlighted the importance of focusing on domestic issues rather than foreign conflicts.

Tensions with Pope Francis

Regarding the escalating feud with Pope Francis, many conservatives at the rally felt the Pope was attacking President Trump, despite the Pope’s calls for peace. Others believed each leader should focus on their respective areas of influence. Regardless of these differing views, Trump maintains strong support from his base heading into the midterm elections.

The administration faces the challenge of mobilizing these voters to ensure a strong turnout in the midterms. The goal is to prevent Democrats from gaining control of the House, which is seen as a direct threat to the President’s agenda.

Search Continues for Missing American in Bahamas

The search is ongoing for an American woman missing in the Bahamas for nearly two weeks. Her daughter, Carly Alesworth, has traveled to the country seeking answers.

Alesworth is seeing the boat her mother, Lynette Hooker, and stepfather, Brian, were on before Lynette disappeared. Alesworth described their relationship as volatile and expressed suspicions about Brian Hooker, who was questioned by Bahamian police. He was released after five days without being charged and denies any involvement in Lynette’s disappearance.

Stepfather Denies Involvement, Leaves Country

“I don’t think I’ve ever been apart from her in 25 years for this long.”

Brian Hooker stated he planned to continue searching for his wife but left the Bahamas the day after his release. Alesworth is determined to find closure and believes her mother did not deserve this.

Michael Phelps Reflects on Career and Mental Health

In a special segment, Olympic champion Michael Phelps discussed his remarkable career and his struggles with mental health. Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, spoke about finding peace in the pool as a child dealing with ADHD and his parents’ separation.

He described his victories, particularly the eight gold medals in Beijing, as a result of immense hard work. However, he also revealed a difficult period of depression following his greatest achievements, questioning his purpose and motivation. Phelps eventually sought help, recognizing the importance of addressing his mental well-being.

“For me, that’s better than winning an Olympic gold medal. There’s like, there’s nothing you can say, nothing you can do that’s better than that.”

Through the Michael Phelps Foundation, he now focuses on teaching young people about mental health training. Phelps expressed that helping others in this way is more rewarding than any of his Olympic triumphs. He concluded by reflecting on his pride in representing his country and the freedom he cherishes in America.
