Rollins Eyes Legacy in WrestleMania Clash!
Seth “Freakin'” Rollins is back on SportsCenter, and he’s ready to talk about a whirlwind year. After a huge win at WrestleMania last April, he saw his vision with Paul Heyman crumble, faced a shocking betrayal, and battled a tough injury in Australia. Rollins described the past 12 months as a wild roller coaster, full of ups, downs, and unexpected turns.
Now, a year later, Rollins has returned. He’s set to compete at WrestleMania after being sidelined for six months and vacating his World Heavyweight Championship. He expressed feeling humble, grateful, and incredibly excited to do what he does best: put on an unforgettable show.
Rollins Ready to Test Himself Against Gunther
Rollins is set to face Gunther, a formidable opponent who has taken down several WWE legends like Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles. Gunther has also been critical of broadcaster Pat McAfee, a move Rollins understands from a shared dislike.
“Gunther and I, we don’t agree on a lot of things,” Rollins admitted, “but the ill will towards Pat McAfee might be one of them at this point.” He acknowledged Gunther’s skill, stating, “There’s no question the guy’s one of the best. He’s proven it time and time again.”
However, Rollins quickly countered, “On the flip side of that coin, my resume speaks for itself. My Wrestlemania legacy speaks for itself.” He believes that after their match, Gunther will be “another notch in that belt,” eager to test his abilities against a top competitor after his injury.
Paul Heyman’s Shadow Looms Large
The presence of Paul Heyman, now aligned with Gunther, adds another layer of complexity. Rollins recalled his past encounters with Heyman, vowing, “If he wants to stick his nose down there, he’s seen what happens when he gets in my way.” He made it clear he has “all my bases covered” and is not worried about Heyman’s interference.
Excitement for Women’s Title Match
Beyond his own match, Rollins highlighted the Women’s Intercontinental Championship bout between Becky Lynch and AJ Lee as a must-see event. He called it “the best female story going into Wrestlemania” and feels it’s flying under the radar.
“This will be the culmination of a rivalry really that’s been building for a long time,” Rollins explained. He believes the match has the potential to be “very special from a legacy standpoint.” This bout also marks the first time the WWE Women’s Intercontinental Championship will be defended in a singles match at WrestleMania.
Bears Look to Build on Success
Shifting to football, Rollins, a passionate Chicago Bears fan, expressed immense excitement for the upcoming season under head coach Ben Johnson. He felt Johnson’s rookie year was a success, exceeding expectations by securing a playoff win.
“I could not be more excited,” Rollins stated, praising the team’s growth and maturity. He specifically mentioned a clutch fourth-down throw by the quarterback to set up a game-winning play, highlighting the team’s “clutch gene.”
Rollins now has high hopes for the Bears, declaring, “Nothing less than an NFC North title. Nothing less than going to the Super Bowl is going to make me happy.” He’s thrilled to finally have a team to cheer for after years of struggle in Chicago.
Draft Strategy for the Bears
With the NFL draft approaching, the conversation turned to the Bears’ needs. Analyst Phil Yates suggested focusing on a defensive back with their first-round pick at number 25 overall, mentioning Dylan Theaman as a potential target who could help the defense.
Rollins agreed with the need for defensive help, particularly in the secondary and on the defensive line. He noted that the Bears weren’t rebuilding but were “in the mix now,” suggesting they should consider aggressive moves, like trading for a top edge rusher if possible.
“I’m going safety. I’m going defense all the way,” Rollins concluded, believing the offense is in good shape with its young talent and solid line. He’s eager for the defense to get the pieces it needs to succeed.
Rollins is set to compete this weekend at WrestleMania, and he also looks ahead to a potential future as an NFL analyst.
