Option 1: Covert Special Forces Operation
One hypothetical scenario involves a U.S. special forces operation to seize the enriched uranium. However, experts believe this is far from a simple “Hollywood type scenario” of a quick in-and-out mission. Such an operation would be incredibly complex, demanding specialized equipment and potentially taking days or even weeks to complete.
Transferring the uranium safely into transport casks would be a major undertaking. The material would then need to be moved out of Iran.
Without Iran’s cooperation, these transport efforts would be fraught with danger. There’s a significant risk of the material being attacked, lost, or stolen during transit, leading to serious nuclear safety and security concerns.
A successful operation hinges on the U.S. having precise knowledge of all uranium locations. This intelligence is reportedly uncertain, adding another layer of risk to a military intervention.
