American Student Missing in Spain
A 20-year-old University of Alabama student, Jimmy Gracie, has gone missing in Barcelona, Spain, while on spring break. Gracie was last seen at a beachfront nightclub early Tuesday morning. His fraternity brothers and family are now desperately searching for any information about his whereabouts.
Last Seen at Barcelona Nightclub
Gracie was with a group of his fraternity brothers at a local nightclub. Around 3 a.m., the group realized they had become separated from him.
They last remember seeing him at the club and he never returned to his accommodation. The following morning, one of Gracie’s fraternity brothers received a text message stating he had not come home.
Fraternity Brothers Join the Search
Several of Gracie’s fraternity brothers are in Barcelona and are actively involved in the search. The chapter president, who was in Barcelona but not with Gracie’s group that night, learned about the disappearance through a text.
He explained that the group Gracie was with went to a beachfront nightclub. They were all together and having a good time until around 3 a.m., when they lost track of him.
“They all got separated and he said Jimmy never made it home, plain and simple. No one knows what happened to him,” the fraternity brother recounted.
iPhone Leads to Police Involvement
The search for Gracie gained momentum when his iPhone was traced to a local police department in Barcelona. The fraternity brothers went to the police station with the phone, identifying it as belonging to their missing friend.
This discovery initiated the missing person’s case with Spanish authorities. The fraternity brother described the moment he learned about the phone as gut-wrenching and filled with scary thoughts.
Family Pleads for Information
Jimmy Gracie’s family is pleading for any information that could help locate him. His father has traveled to Barcelona to assist in the search and work with Spanish authorities.
Gracie is the oldest of five siblings, and his mother and younger siblings remain home while his father leads the effort in Spain. The family is also working with the U.S. State Department.
Describing Jimmy Gracie
Gracie’s aunt described him as a great kid who is responsible and a leader. She emphasized that he typically makes good decisions and doesn’t usually get into trouble, which is why the family is so worried.
The family stated that Spanish police are being cooperative, but details surrounding the disappearance are still scarce. They are unsure how the police came into possession of the phone or if it is directly linked to Gracie’s disappearance.
Ongoing Search Efforts
The University of Alabama students and fraternity brothers are distributing flyers and scouring the beach area near the nightclub where Gracie was last seen. They are hoping to find any clue or develop a better understanding of what might have happened. The family and friends are united in their hope for Gracie’s safe return.
