Shapiro Criticizes Trump’s Iran Stance, Cites Economic Impact

Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro has strongly criticized former President Donald Trump’s approach to Iran, calling it a “war of choice” that has caused significant global disruption and increased costs for American families. Shapiro made these remarks at the National Action Network’s convention, where he also addressed the ongoing conflict with Iran and claims of a potential ceasefire.

Shapiro stated that if a ceasefire had been reached under Trump’s influence, it would have represented another instance of potential war crimes. He directly linked Trump’s foreign policy decisions to rising prices for everyday Americans. “The president’s war of choice, a war I do not support and have not supported, has not only wreaked havoc across the globe, it’s made things far more difficult for the American people,” Shapiro said.

Economic Fallout for Americans

The governor detailed how Trump’s actions have allegedly impacted the finances of average citizens. He pointed to specific areas where costs have risen, including fuel prices, groceries, and healthcare. Shapiro asserted that these increases are directly attributable to Trump’s policies.

“Whether it’s fuel prices, whether it’s the cost at the grocery store, whether it’s the cost of your health care, Donald Trump is directly responsible for making everything cost more. And we are now saddled by that,” he explained.

Focus on Midterm Elections

While Shapiro avoided direct questions about his own potential presidential ambitions in 2028, he emphasized his current focus on the upcoming midterm elections. He expressed a strong desire to see Democrats gain control of both houses of Congress. Shapiro revealed that he has been actively strategizing with figures like Representative Hakeem Jeffries to achieve this goal.

Speaking at the National Action Network conference, Shapiro highlighted the importance of community engagement and voter turnout. His message centered on encouraging people to strategize and vote to support the Democratic agenda. “We’re making sure people strategize and actually get to the polls and bring other people to the polls to make the Democrats’ plan happen as we approach these midterm elections,” he stated.

National Action Network Convention Highlights

The convention featured a lineup of prominent speakers, including Reverend Al Sharpton, founder of the National Action Network, Mayor Zaron Mumdani, Representative Al Green, Representative Rokana, and attorney Benjamin Crump. The discussions at the event covered a range of topics, from the ongoing situation in Iran to strategies for the midterm elections.

Maya Eaglin, reporting for MSNOW, described the mood at the convention as optimistic and energized. Many attendees expressed enthusiasm for the “movement of inclusivity,” aiming to ensure that no generation or group is left behind. The broad message from the stage was one of collective strength.

A Strategy for Action

Reverend Al Sharpton emphasized that the convention was not just about talking points but about developing a concrete plan. “We’re leaving this conference with a strategy.

This isn’t about talking points. This this is about coming up with a plan,” Sharpton said.

The discussions surrounding the midterms and foreign policy are expected to continue throughout the week as the National Action Network convention progresses. The focus remains on mobilizing communities and developing actionable strategies for political engagement.
