Thomas Haugh is staying put in Gainesville, announcing his decision to return to the University of Florida for another year and withdraw his name from the 2026 NBA Draft. “For me it’s not really about that,” Haugh explained. “I’m not a money kind of guy like that. Like I I love wearing the orange and blue and I want to represent my school and I want to go back out there and get another championship under Coach Golden and play with my guys for one more year.” He believes many players today chase a paycheck, but his decision is rooted in pride and a desire to compete at the highest level of college basketball.

A United Front with Teammates

Haugh isn’t the only key player considering his options. He revealed that he’s been working out in Los Angeles with teammate Will Condron, who is also staying with the Gators. The players have been in constant communication, discussing their futures while understanding that each must make their own choice.

“A ton,” Haugh said when asked about the conversations with his teammates. “I’m out here in LA right now working out with Condron, he’s literally in the other room right now.” He also shared a moment of needing to disconnect, turning off his phone during a trip to Hawaii after the season to decompress before making his final decision.

Relief and Focus on the Future

The process of deciding whether to go pro or stay in college can be incredibly stressful. For Haugh, the moment of clarity brought immense relief. He felt for his agent, father, and the Florida coaches who handled numerous calls while he was on vacation.

“It’s definitely relief,” Haugh confirmed. “I feel really bad for my agent and my dad and the coaches of Florida. Everybody just like the amount of phone calls and stuff they’re making and stuff and I’m just you know, I was on vacation the whole time.” Now, with the decision made, his focus is sharp: improving his game and preparing for a championship run next season.

Targeted Improvements for Next Season

While Haugh is projected to be an NBA draft pick in the future, he sees the upcoming college season as a crucial development period. He has specific areas he wants to enhance to boost his draft stock and help the Gators succeed.

“Definitely my ball handle. I want to be, you know, last year was the first time I played the three,” Haugh noted.

He also aims to become a more consistent shooter, improving his shooting percentage to match his shot attempts from last season. He’s already putting in the work in Los Angeles, determined to see those improvements translate onto the court.

Coach Golden’s Reaction

Head Coach Todd Golden was thrilled to hear Haugh’s decision. The coach even flew out to Los Angeles to watch Haugh work out, where Haugh personally delivered the news.

“He gave me a big hug,” Haugh recalled about telling Coach Golden in person. The coach’s optimistic reaction and Haugh’s ability to look him in the eye and confirm his return was a powerful moment for both.
