Trump Extends Iran Ceasefire Amid Stalled Talks

President Trump announced late Tuesday he is extending the ceasefire with Iran, just hours before the truce was set to expire. This dramatic move comes as peace talks in Pakistan, intended to address the ongoing tensions, have stalled with no clear timeline for resumption. Vice President Vance’s planned participation in these negotiations is now on hold.

The President stated the United States blockade against Iran will remain in place. Iran had demanded an end to the blockade before any discussions could take place.

The ceasefire extension, according to officials, is a response to a request from Pakistan for Iran to develop a unified proposal before resuming talks. President Trump indicated the ceasefire would continue until talks are concluded.

Stalled Negotiations and Continued Blockade

Preparations had been underway for the latest round of peace talks in Pakistan. However, neither the U.S. delegation, including Vice President Vance, nor their Iranian counterparts were en route. This led to the cancellation of the Pakistan talks for the day.

Despite the ceasefire extension, President Trump affirmed the continuation of the naval blockade. This includes the seizure of ships suspected of violating sanctions.

New video emerged showing U.S. forces intercepting an Iran-linked oil tanker in the Indian Ocean. Commandos were seen rappelling onto the deck with weapons raised.

Earlier on Sunday, a cargo ship seized by the U.S. Navy was reported to be carrying materials from China. President Trump commented on the seizure, suggesting it was a shipment from China and expressing surprise given his understanding with President Xi. He remarked, “That’s the way war goes, right?”

Iran’s Demands and Military Capabilities

Iran has been demanding that the U.S. cease its blockade before engaging in any talks. The nation also reversed its earlier decision to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, having fired on an oil tanker over the weekend. The captain of that tanker was reportedly pleading with Iran to stop its attacks.

Both sides have issued threats of a return to conflict. However, NBC News has learned that Iran’s military, despite being significantly damaged, still possesses substantial capabilities. This includes thousands of missiles and attack drones, according to a recent Pentagon intelligence assessment provided to lawmakers.

Close Calls in the Skies

In aviation news, a concerning near-miss occurred at New York’s JFK Airport. An American Airlines regional jet narrowly avoided a collision with an Air Canada regional jet after missing its approach path.

Onboard alerts sounded on both aircraft, but both planes landed safely. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident.

This event follows a series of other aviation incidents. Video captured a plane crashing into power lines near Los Angeles, causing a fiery explosion.

The aircraft then made a crash landing in an auto parts store parking lot. Bystanders worked quickly to lift the downed single-engine Cessna, allowing rescuers to extract the critically injured pilot.

Further north, another plane clipped power lines near Salinas Airport, resulting in a crash landing with two people on board. No injuries were reported in that incident, and the cause remains under investigation.

In Mesa, Arizona, police shared body camera footage of a small plane making an unusual landing on a multi-lane road, turning it into an impromptu airstrip. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

Deadly Attack in Mexico and School District Policy Change

New details have emerged regarding a deadly shooting rampage at a popular tourist site in Mexico. Officials confirmed that six Americans were among the thirteen people injured in the attack. Chilling new video appears to capture audio of the gunman during the incident at the Teotihuacan pyramids.

The video shows terrified bystanders hiding on the ground. One witness reported the gunman was yelling about the site being a place for sacrifices and was angry at tourists taking pictures.

Gunshots were heard as the video ended. A Canadian woman was killed in the attack.

Investigators identified the shooter as Julio Cesar Jaso Ramirez, aged 27. They believe the attack was premeditated and that Ramirez carried literature and images related to the Columbine High School massacre.

The incident occurred on the anniversary of that deadly shooting. Mexico’s president has ordered increased security at archaeological zones and tourist attractions.

In a significant policy shift, the Los Angeles Unified School District voted to restrict screen time in classrooms. This move makes it the first major school district in the country to limit, and in some cases ban, the use of devices like iPads and computers for educational purposes. The decision follows pressure from parents concerned about excessive technology use.

The new policy will ban devices in classrooms through first grade and set recommended screen time limits for all other grades. It also restricts screen use during recess for elementary and middle school students and limits access to YouTube due to concerns about ads and autoplay features. Several other states, including Utah, Alabama, and Virginia, have passed similar laws restricting screen time in schools.

The Rise of AI-Proof Careers and Summer Travel Concerns

As artificial intelligence continues to impact various industries, the nursing profession is experiencing a boom. Columbia University nursing students are undergoing emergency simulations, preparing for real-life scenarios. Many individuals are transitioning into nursing from fields like law, business, and finance.

Healthcare was the largest source of job creation in the U.S. last year, according to the Labor Department, at a time when many other industries are facing contraction due to AI. Experts believe nursing is an “AI-proof” career because artificial intelligence cannot replicate the human empathy and emotional nuances required in patient care. The Wall Street Journal highlights nursing as a stable path to prosperity, with median wages nearly double those of other occupations.

Many are drawn to nursing for its flexibility and opportunity for career advancement. Some nurses are returning to school to become nurse practitioners, enabling them to diagnose patients and prescribe medication. Despite the demanding hours and emotional toll, many find deep satisfaction in their work, citing positive patient outcomes as a significant reward.

Travelers are facing uncertainty this summer as airlines cut routes and increase prices. Delta is among the major carriers reducing flights from hubs like JFK, Boston, and Detroit for three months. The surge in jet fuel prices, linked to the conflict in the Middle East, is a primary factor affecting airfare costs.

Lufthansa plans to cancel 20,000 short-haul flights to conserve jet fuel. Low-cost carriers in the U.S., like Spirit Airlines, are reportedly struggling, prompting calls for government assistance. Travel experts advise booking summer flights as soon as possible, as prices are unlikely to decrease in the current environment.

Dramatic Rescue and Theft

In a dramatic rescue, New York City police officers responded to a burning car trapped between branches. Body camera footage shows officers using an extinguisher on the flames before smashing a window to help extract trapped passengers. All individuals inside the vehicle were safely rescued.

Separately, in Chicago, surveillance video captured a significant robbery at a store. Two thieves broke in and stole over $100,000 worth of Pokemon cards and sports memorabilia.

The store owner stated the thieves appeared to know exactly which items to target after smashing through the front window. No arrests have been made in this case.
