Democrats Accuse GOP of Undermining Epstein Probe

House Oversight Committee Democrats are accusing Republican leadership of abandoning official hearings in the investigation into Jeffrey Epstein. Ranking Member Congressman Robert Garcia stated that the committee is moving away from traditional hearings towards informal roundtables.

Democrats argue this shift prevents them from making motions, calling witnesses, and issuing subpoenas. This change, they believe, stems from frustration over Democrats’ success in forcing subpoenas related to the Epstein case.

Democrats Vow to Continue Fight for Justice

“We have forced 18 subpoena votes and gotten Republicans to vote with us on some of those,” Congressman Garcia explained. “And so now it looks like oversight that Republicans and Chairman Comer are choosing to not hold hearings, which is insane.” Democrats have refused to participate in what they call “sham fake hearings.” They are demanding a return to official proceedings because the Epstein investigation is at a critical stage. The goal remains to gather more information and achieve justice for the survivors.

Pam Bondi Subpoena Faces Obstacles

A key point of contention is the attempt to hold Pam Bondi, former Florida Attorney General, in contempt for skipping her deposition. Reports indicate that four of the five Republican members who initially voted to subpoena Bondi are now resisting holding her in contempt. This lack of Republican support raises questions about the committee’s ability to compel her testimony.

Bondi’s Testimony is Legally Required

Despite the Republican resistance, Congressman Garcia expressed optimism about moving forward. “We are optimistic, actually, that we’re going to be able to move forward,” he stated.

“The kind of first step of this contempt process is ensuring that we file the contempt charges, which are being written up.” Pam Bondi has not contacted the committee, and Democrats are unsure if she has legal representation. She is legally obligated to appear and answer questions before the committee.

Subpoena Holds Legal Weight

Congressman Garcia emphasized the binding nature of the subpoena. “Pam Bondi has yet to reach out to our committee.

We’ve made multiple attempts,” he said. “She is legally obligated to be in front of us to answer these questions.” He added, “That subpoena is legally binding, whether those Republicans want to see her come in or not.” He pointed out that the Republicans who voted for the original subpoena would have to actively vote against a contempt motion to block her testimony.

Shifting Republican Stance and Trump’s Influence

Garcia suggested that the shift in Republican cooperation might be linked to Donald Trump’s reaction to the investigation. “I think that Donald Trump has realized really quickly that when we push and demand answers in which survivors speak up when we get folks and witnesses to they want to talk about the Epstein cover-up,” Garcia noted. He also questioned why the White House has not released 50% of the files and continues to endanger survivors by releasing their personal information.

Public Support Drives Democratic Efforts

Democrats believe the American public supports their pursuit of truth and justice for Epstein’s victims. “The American public is with us. They want truth.

They want justice for the survivors of Jeffrey Epstein,” Garcia stated. He rejected Donald Trump’s claims that the investigation is a hoax. Democrats are committed to continuing their work despite potential roadblocks from Republican leadership and former President Trump.

Commitment to Transparency and Justice

Congressman Garcia concluded by stressing the committee’s focus on transparency. “We’ve been focused on transparency. And the American public every day continues to argue in our favor.

They are with us. They want the truth and that’s not going to stop.

We’re going to get justice,” he affirmed. The fight for truth and justice in the Epstein investigation is ongoing.
