Accuser Details Assault Allegations Against Eric Swalwell
Lana Drewes, represented by attorney Lisa Bloom, has come forward with allegations of sexual assault against Representative Eric Swalwell. Drewes claims the incident occurred in 2018 after Swalwell allegedly drugged her drink. The legal team is filing a police report and cooperating with law enforcement investigations.
Accuser Details Assault Allegations Against Eric Swalwell
Lana Drewes, represented by attorney Lisa Bloom, held a news conference Tuesday to detail allegations of sexual assault against Representative Eric Swalwell. Drewes stated that in 2018, after meeting Swalwell socially, she had contact with him on three occasions. She claims Swalwell offered to help her fashion software company and invited her to two public events.
Drewes alleges that on the third occasion, her drink was drugged. She stated she was incapacitated and unable to move when she arrived at his hotel room. She further claims Swalwell then raped and choked her until she lost consciousness, stating she did not consent to any sexual activity.
Details of the Allegations
During the news conference, Drewes read a prepared statement detailing her experience. She explained that at the time of the alleged assault in 2018, she was working as a model in Beverly Hills and owned a fashion software company. She also noted that she was considering a run for city council, which put her in contact with political figures.
Drewes mentioned that Swalwell was aware of her business and repeatedly spoke about his ability to make introductions in Silicon Valley, referencing his political influence. She emphasized that her interest was in the business relationship and professional connections he offered, not romantic interest.
She stated that the assault had a profound impact on her mental health, leading to self-medication and suicidal thoughts. Drewes also pointed out that she was in a committed dating relationship at the time and would never have engaged in a consensual encounter with Swalwell, further highlighting the non-consensual nature of the alleged assault.
Legal Representation and Next Steps
Eric Fidali, managing attorney at The Bloom Firm, and Lisa Bloom, stated their commitment to seeking justice for Drewes. They clarified that their focus is on accountability and truth, not on the political implications of the allegations.
Fidali stated, “This is about much more than politics and belittling such serious allegations is offensive to Lana and the victims everywhere.” Bloom added that they would be filing a police report with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Office, which has jurisdiction over incidents in West Hollywood.
The firm plans to provide all of Drewes’ evidence to law enforcement, including text messages, journal entries, photographs, and witness information. They will also cooperate with any other law enforcement agencies investigating Swalwell, such as the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
Response to Swalwell’s Statements
Lisa Bloom directly addressed Swalwell’s public statements, calling his remarks about not being perfect and making “mistakes in judgment” as “blather and spin.” She urged him to stop minimizing the situation and to own his behavior.
Bloom also stated, “Your statement that this is all just between you and your wife is laughable if not for the fact that it is a slap in the face to the victims.” She emphasized that victims deserve autonomy over their bodies, regardless of a person’s position of power.
Encouraging Other Victims
Bloom encouraged other women who have experienced similar situations and wish to come forward to contact her firm. She mentioned that three other women have reached out since the news conference was announced. She stressed that her firm offers free and confidential consultations.
Bloom highlighted the phenomenon of collective empowerment, where one victim coming forward can encourage others to do the same. She thanked women on social media, advocates, and anyone who has supported victims, stating that their actions make a tremendous difference.
Pursuit of Justice
When asked about justice, Fidali and Bloom emphasized that their priority is criminal investigations. They believe that losing a job is not a sufficient consequence for such allegations.
“Justice now are the criminal investigations,” Fidali stated. Bloom added that they are focusing on the criminal justice system as the most appropriate path, but did not rule out civil action.
Regarding Swalwell’s resignation from Congress, Bloom suggested it was an effort to avoid an expulsion hearing, as his resignation removes the Ethics Committee’s jurisdiction. She believes true accountability lies within the criminal justice system.
Evidence Presented
During the news conference, a photograph was shown of Drewes and Swalwell at the opening of a restaurant called Avra in 2018. This was identified as one of the occasions Drewes met with him.
The firm stated they would be providing all evidence to the sheriff’s office, not releasing additional material to the media. Drewes confirmed she had no contact with Swalwell after the alleged incident in 2018.
The legal team confirmed that this would be the first time law enforcement is contacted by them regarding this matter. They reiterated their commitment to assisting and supporting Drewes throughout the process and seeking justice for her.
