Zelensky Warns of New Russian Spring Attacks
Kyiv, Ukraine – Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a stark warning to his nation, revealing intelligence that suggests Russia is planning renewed and intensified assaults on infrastructure this spring. Speaking after what he described as the most difficult winter of the war, Zelensky emphasized Ukraine’s resilience in repelling a barrage of Russian missile and drone strikes, while also highlighting the ongoing threat and the critical need for enhanced air defense capabilities. The President’s address, delivered on a day where Ukrainians could reflect on surviving the harsh winter months, underscored both the nation’s endurance and the persistent danger posed by the Kremlin’s ongoing aggression.
Winter of Resilience, Spring of Vigilance
President Zelensky began his address by acknowledging the immense hardship faced by Ukrainians over the winter. “Today is the day when each of us can quite rightly say we have gone through this winter, the most difficult in all the years of war,” he stated. He accused Russia of aiming to use the winter months to break Ukraine and its people, a goal he asserted had failed. “But Ukraine did not break. We have preserved our energy system.”
The scale of the winter attacks was significant. Zelensky detailed a massive Russian strike on December 6th, which targeted over 700 different points, including more than 50 missiles and a substantial amount of ballistic weaponry. Throughout the winter, Ukraine faced over 700 missiles of various types. “No nation has gone through such trials. The Ukrainians overcame this too,” Zelensky declared, expressing gratitude to energy workers, repair teams, emergency services, and military personnel who ensured the nation’s survival and defense.
He specifically lauded the efforts of air defense crews, Ukrainian aviation, mobile fire groups, and the developers and operators of interceptors. The President also recognized utility services and local authorities who remained steadfastly with their communities, as well as Ukrainian entrepreneurs who adapted their businesses to maintain operations and employment during the challenging period.
Intelligence Points to Renewed Spring Offensive
Despite the successful defense throughout the winter, Zelensky cautioned that the threat is far from over. “We know that the Russians are not going to stop with strikes. This is a fact. They are preparing new attacks on infrastructure. Intelligence provides relevant information,” he revealed. This intelligence necessitates a continued state of high alert and readiness among all defense forces.
“Therefore, everyone whose job whose service is to defend Ukraine from strikes should be as focused in the spring now as in the winter. It is necessary to respond to every threat and shoot down Russian targets as much as possible,” Zelensky urged. The President stressed that even nations with advanced air defense systems struggle to achieve complete protection, citing the situation in the Middle East where sophisticated systems could not intercept all incoming ballistic missiles and drones.
The Role of Air Defense and International Cooperation
Zelensky underscored the irreplaceable value of Ukraine’s defense experience, gained through enduring relentless attacks. He expressed Ukraine’s readiness to share this hard-won knowledge with partners and nations that have supported Ukraine. “Europe must still provide itself with real strength, a real ability to defend its sky, its land, its sea from any type of attack,” he asserted, emphasizing the urgent need to increase the production of air defense systems, including those capable of countering drones and ballistic missiles.
The President also addressed the evolving situation involving Iran, noting that Ukrainian intelligence and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs are closely monitoring developments and coordinating with international partners. He highlighted the Iranian regime’s oppressive actions against its own citizens and its role in supporting Russia’s war effort by providing drones and production technology. Zelensky called for a clear international stance in support of the Iranian people and for justice to prevail against the regime.
A Call for Diplomacy and Lasting Peace
Concluding his remarks, Zelensky reiterated Russia’s obligation to end its war against Ukraine. “Russia must end its war against Ukraine. End with dignity. Diplomacy can ensure this. The world gives Russia the opportunity for diplomacy. We need to take advantage of it,” he stated, suggesting that while military resilience is paramount, the door for diplomatic resolution, when offered with dignity, should be considered.
The President ended with a message of gratitude to all who stand with Ukraine and contribute to its defense and eventual victory. “I thank everyone who is with Ukraine. Thank you to everyone who helps us. Glory to Ukraine.” The focus now shifts to Ukraine’s preparedness for potential spring offensives and the ongoing efforts to bolster its air defense capabilities and secure international support.
