Roman Reigns Claims WWE World Heavyweight Title in Epic WrestleMania 42 Main Event

WrestleMania 42 has crowned a new king. Roman Reigns has once again reached the pinnacle of professional wrestling, defeating CM Punk in a brutal, back-and-forth main event to become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. The electrifying night in Las Vegas saw the crowd transition from a sea of boos for Reigns to chanting his name, proof of the unforgettable performance put on by both superstars.

The match was a true war, demanding everything from both competitors. It took multiple “Go to Sleep” finishers from Punk and surviving a powerbomb through the Spanish announce table for Reigns to even stay in the fight.

The action spilled outside, with Reigns using steel steps to bust Punk open early on. Punk later retaliated, taking tape off his hand and delivering a low blow before hitting his signature “Go to Sleep” for a near fall that had the entire arena on the edge of their seats.

The intensity only grew as Punk, after Reigns survived another powerbomb through the announcer’s table, leaped from the top turnbuckle to put Reigns through the table again. The crowd erupted with “This is awesome!” chants, acknowledging the sheer physicality and will on display. Despite being exhausted, both men continued to trade blows.

Reigns managed to hit a spear, but Punk was still on his feet, albeit kneeling. It was a “super spear” that finally put Punk down for the cover, sealing Reigns’ victory and ending his two-year quest to reclaim the championship.

Triple H Declares a ‘Changing of the Guard’

Following the main event, WWE Hall of Famer Triple H, a 14-time champion himself, weighed in on the monumental night. He described the main event as “epic,” highlighting the deep passion and pride of two men who genuinely believe they are the best in the world. Triple H noted that the fight was a “knockdown, drag out fight” where neither competitor wanted to give an inch, ultimately leading to a well-earned victory for Roman Reigns, whom he called one of the greatest matches he has ever seen.

The night also marked a potentially significant moment for the career of Brock Lesnar. After an “epic clash of titans” against Obami, a clearly emotional Lesnar removed his gloves and boots, a symbolic gesture that has fans questioning if this is the end of “The Beast Incarnate’s” in-ring career. Triple H suggested that this move was a sign of Lesnar’s intelligence as a fighter, recognizing when an opponent like Obami is simply bigger and better.

“Brock is not a walk back through the curtain and have a long conversation guy,” Triple H explained. “Brock has to walk back through the curtain very angry and go to the go to his bus and that that is the end of it.” He added that Lesnar met something that “cannot be stopped” in Obami, stating, “It is much of a statement of obey as it is Brock Lesnar.” Triple H concluded that this was a clear “changing of the guard” at the apex of the business.

Trick Williams Crowned United States Champion

In another significant title change, Trick Williams defeated Sami Zayn to become the new United States Champion. The match saw Williams intercept a “Huva kick” attempt from Zayn, countering with his own “Trick Shot” for the win. Williams, accompanied by Lil Yachty for his entrance and during key moments of the match, expressed his elation.

“Tonight was unreal. And man, I’m on cloud nine, man. That’s why I wear the all white and that’s why I am the anointed one,” Williams declared.

He celebrated bringing the championship back home, referencing Zayn’s Canadian heritage. The Miz, a former United States Champion himself, praised Williams’ quick rise and confident demeanor, noting that he carries himself like a superstar from day one.

Williams, who has only been on SmackDown for about six months, attributed his success to hard work and a mindset of proving himself, letting his in-ring performance do the talking. He embraces the “target on his back” that comes with championship gold, promising that when he defends the title, it will be a main event spectacle. When asked about potential future opponents, Williams confidently stated, “Whoever wants some of Trick Williams, you better strap your boots on tight because you gonna get the best version of Trick Williams.”

Penta El Zero Miedo Retains Intercontinental Title in Ladder Match Classic

The Intercontinental Championship six-man ladder match was another highlight of the night, delivering a “banger” that many are calling one of the best ladder matches in WrestleMania history. Penta El Zero Miedo successfully retained his title in a chaotic and high-flying contest against Rey Mysterio, Rusev, JD McDonagh, Javon Evans, and another competitor.

The match featured incredible spots, including Penta and Rey Mysterio working together early on, and Rusev being put through a ladder. JD McDonagh and Penta had a notable battle on top of a ladder before Penta hit a “destroyer” finisher.

In a surprising turn, Javon Evans climbed to the top rope and hit an “OG cutter” on Rusev, but Penta quickly followed up with another “destroyer” on Evans, using the ladder’s rungs. Penta then climbed the ladder to secure the win and retain his championship.

The commentators debated the match’s place in ladder match history, with one stating, “Every time we talk about ladder matches at WrestleMania, we always say this is the best one. This is the best one. And to be completely honest with you, this was the best one.” The reasoning was that multiple performers, not just one, had breakout moments, showcasing incredible acrobatics and daring moves throughout the bout.

The Miz, despite not winning a title, felt he had a significant moment, stating, “I have many Wrestlemania moments. I chose a better one today.” He emphasized that he is “not cursed,” addressing any speculation about his involvement in the show.
