Nick Cannon Buys Anthony Hamilton His First Car
Anthony Hamilton recently shared a heartwarming story on Club Shay Shay about how Nick Cannon gifted him his very first car. This unexpected present came at a special moment in Hamilton’s life, cementing a lasting memory between the two artists. It all started when Cannon asked Hamilton to appear in his music video for the song “Can I Live.”
The song was a tribute from Cannon to his mother, expressing gratitude for not aborting him. Hamilton was asked to be in the video, and the filming took place overnight.
Despite the long hours and an unexpected scene where he got soaked, Hamilton remained professional and didn’t complain. He was there for hours, even ending up wet from a scene he wasn’t supposed to be in.
During the shoot, Nick Cannon was impressed by Hamilton’s gracious attitude. He told Hamilton, “Man, he’s just being so grateful and gracious. I want to do something special for him.” Cannon had his eye on a specific vintage station wagon, a gold 1971 model, which was the same year Hamilton was born.
That night, Cannon surprised Hamilton by writing him a check for the car. “That was my first car ever owning. Nick bought my car.
My first car before I could buy it,” Hamilton explained. The station wagon was a beautiful gold color and, though this particular one didn’t have it, Hamilton had wanted the classic wood paneling often seen on such vehicles. He still owns and cherishes the car today.
Hamilton’s Thoughts on Money and Investments
Hamilton also reflected on his two decades in the music industry and what he’s learned about money. He stated, “The more you make, the more somebody need it.” For Hamilton, money is great, but managing it wisely is crucial for it to work for you. He stressed the importance of knowing how to invest and maneuver with your earnings.
When asked about his best purchase, Hamilton didn’t hesitate to say his home. He bought his first house for under a million dollars, with the help of a Black female financial advisor.
“You don’t need no house under a million and move to Woo and all that,” she advised. Hamilton is still living in that home and plans to sell it soon, looking to take advantage of the equity he’s built up.
He believes having a solid place to call home reduces stress significantly, stating, “One place. You don’t need 15 places.” Hamilton mentioned trying to have multiple homes in the past, including one in LA, but found it to be too much. He also touched on the struggles of others, like Kevin McCall, suggesting that personal issues can sometimes hinder growth and success.
Admiration for Denzel Washington and Other Actors
The conversation also turned to acting, with Hamilton expressing his admiration for Denzel Washington. He recalled meeting Washington at the 75th anniversary of the Apollo Theater. Washington even remembered Hamilton from that encounter when they later met on the set of “American Gangster.”
Hamilton described Washington as a class act who is very serious about his profession. “No, we’re not here for no pictures. We’re here to make this amazing movie.
We’re here to be great,” Washington reportedly told people on set. Hamilton believes Washington’s special talent lies in how he maintains a piece of himself in every character he plays, making him unique.
He also praised Washington’s ability to transform and make audiences believe he is the character, citing his performances in “Malcolm X” and “Training Day” as examples. Hamilton also mentioned working with Terrence Howard on the set of “Empire,” calling him a friend and a fellow music lover. He recalled Howard’s role in “Hustle & Flow” and noted that Howard, like others, usually keeps in touch every few years.
Hamilton also shared his thoughts on Dave Chappelle, calling him “the GOAT” and highlighting his ability to weave real-life events into comedy. He also mentioned Chris Rock and Kevin Hart as incredible performers, having seen them live and backstage respectively. These artists, like Washington, represent a high level of craft and storytelling in their respective fields.
