Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Rematch: “A Real Fight”!
Manny Pacquiao has expressed his excitement for a potential rematch against Floyd Mayweather Jr., emphasizing his desire for a "real fight" and not an exhibition. The Filipino legend believes they have both matured since their 2015 encounter and is ready for a legitimate boxing contest.
Pacquiao vs. Mayweather Rematch: “A Real Fight”!
The boxing world is buzzing with the potential for a seismic event: a rematch between Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao and undefeated American icon Floyd Mayweather Jr. While the initial bout in 2015 was billed as the “Fight of the Century,” it left many fans wanting more. Now, over a decade later, Pacquiao is signaling his readiness and excitement for a second encounter, but with a clear stipulation – it must be a “real fight.”
Pacquiao Eager for “Real Fight” Against Mayweather
Speaking alongside Jazz Matther, CEO of Manny Pacquiao Promotions and Limitless X Holdings, the “People’s Champ” expressed his enthusiasm for a potential rematch. The timing, he suggests, is opportune. “It just happened that I’m still active in boxing and then he come out from retirement. So, uh, and he decided to uh to do it again. So, this is this is it. like I’m I’m so excited for for the fight,” Pacquiao stated.
The prospect of a rematch is particularly intriguing given the circumstances surrounding their first meeting. In 2015, the fight generated unprecedented hype but was criticized by some for its cautious tactical approach. Pacquiao, reflecting on that experience, believes he has learned valuable lessons.
“Oh, yeah. I learned a lot um from that fight um way back 2015. And um I think uh we uh we become mature right now and uh how to uh handle it and like you know I hope that um uh it will not happen again like uh um the way it is uh last 2015 you know it’s uh the experience is like uh um not really uh 100% but um I’m hoping for this time around uh no more excuses uh especially to my condition and also uh for everything like I’m I’m so excited and ready to the fight.”
No More Exhibitions, Only A True Boxing Bout
A key point of contention for Pacquiao regarding the potential rematch is the nature of the contest. He made it clear that he is not interested in an exhibition bout, especially if Mayweather was leaning towards that format. “Although uh um before he wants an exhibition with me but I don’t I didn’t disagree and I don’t want to fight with exhibition with him. I want to fight a a real fight like this. So this is it,” Pacquiao declared emphatically.
This stance suggests that if a rematch is to materialize, it will be a legitimate professional boxing match with all the stakes that entails, rather than a demonstration bout. The last time the two titans shared the ring, the event was a monumental spectacle, breaking numerous pay-per-view records. However, the fight itself, which Mayweather won by unanimous decision (118-116, 116-112, 116-112), was seen by many as a tactical chess match that lacked the explosive action many had anticipated.
What This Means Going Forward
For Manny Pacquiao, who has remained active and competitive in the boxing world long after Mayweather’s retirement, this rematch represents a chance to perhaps settle unfinished business and prove his mettle against his greatest rival. His recent performances, though against different opponents, have shown he still possesses significant skill and power. His desire for a “real fight” underscores his commitment to competitive boxing and his legacy.
For Floyd Mayweather Jr., who has flirted with exhibition bouts and returns to the ring for special events, a sanctioned rematch would be a significant departure. It raises questions about his current physical condition and his willingness to engage in the rigorous preparation required for a professional fight against an elite competitor like Pacquiao. The potential for a second clash, however, promises massive financial rewards and another chapter in one of boxing’s most talked-about rivalries.
With both fighters now in the later stages of their illustrious careers, the narrative shifts from a battle for undefeated status to a quest for legacy and perhaps a definitive conclusion to their storied rivalry. The boxing world will be watching closely to see if this “real fight” between Pacquiao and Mayweather can be officially inked and deliver the excitement that eluded their first encounter.
