Bondi Skips Deposition, Faces Contempt Calls

Top Democrats are pushing forward with contempt proceedings against former Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi after she failed to appear for a deposition. Congressman Robert Garcia, the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, called Bondi the “mastermind of this White House cover-up” in a recent interview.

The committee had issued a subpoena for Bondi to testify regarding the Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell investigations. Despite her current role not being Attorney General, Garcia stated that this is “no excuse for her not to come in.” Survivors of abuse have demanded Bondi’s testimony, and her refusal to appear is considered grounds for contempt by the committee.

Chairman James Comer confirmed he is in contact with Bondi’s attorney and has offered to reschedule the hearing. However, he warned that if no agreement is reached in the coming days, the committee will begin contempt proceedings. “People have to be held accountable for the laws that we pass in the Congress and the subpoenas that we put in place,” Garcia emphasized.

Questions Swirl Around Todd Blanche and DOJ

The focus also includes Todd Blanche, a lawyer involved in the Epstein investigation. Garcia expressed skepticism regarding Blanche’s recent statement that the Justice Department (DOJ) has released all relevant documents and concluded its work on the Epstein case.

“That is all complete BS,” Garcia stated, asserting that the DOJ still possesses roughly half of the requested documents. He described the idea that the investigation is over as a “fantasy” and called the situation a “cover-up.”

The committee has sent a subpoena to Blanche, who they believe has had his “fingerprints all over this stuff from the very beginning.” Garcia noted that Blanche was Donald Trump’s private lawyer and was involved with handling information related to the case. The committee intends to ensure Blanche testifies, viewing him as a key figure in the ongoing investigation.

Bondi Called a ‘Bit Player’ in Larger Scheme

While Pam Bondi faces contempt charges, Congressman Garcia suggested she might be a less central figure than initially perceived. He described Bondi as a “bit player” whom Donald Trump “put into play on the table, on the board.”

Garcia implied that the true accountability should lie with those who directed Trump to involve Bondi in the first place. “ASK YOURSELVES WHO WAS THE PLAYER TELLING DONALD TRUMP TO PUT THAT PLAYER IN PLAY? THOSE ARE THE FOLKS YOU NEED TO HOLD ACCOUNTABLE,” he urged.

The committee has the votes to subpoena Bondi but not for Blanche at this time. However, Garcia affirmed their commitment to bringing Blanche before the committee, stating, “WE HAVE AN ABSOLUTE PLAN ON GETTING TODD BLANCH TO COME IN FRONT OF OUR COMMITTEE.”

Survivors Deserve Answers, Not Hearings

The discussion also touched upon the recent comments from First Lady Melania Trump, who suggested survivors of Epstein and Maxwell’s abuse should have a hearing on Capitol Hill.

Garcia questioned the necessity of hauling survivors before Congress for hearings, arguing that they have already spoken and are the reason the Epstein files began to be released. “WHY DO THE SURVIVORS NEED TO BE HAULED OUT IN FRONT OF CONGRESS TO HAVE HEARINGS?” he asked.

He suggested Melania Trump could do more than just call for hearings. “SHE SHOULD TURN TO HER HUSBAND AND ASK HIM AND FORCE HIM TO RELEASE THE REST OF THE FILES,” Garcia stated. He stressed that half of the Epstein files remain in the DOJ’s possession and that the public and survivors deserve to see them. He also pointed out that there are more pictures of Melania Trump with Epstein than Hillary Clinton, who was previously subpoenaed.

Broader Implications and Future Steps

The congressman emphasized that “everybody is in the game here” concerning the Epstein investigation. He believes that when Democrats gain control of relevant committees, the scope of inquiry will expand to include all individuals with connections to Epstein.

“We need to know what you did at the time, what you knew then, what you know now so that we can begin to really… give the survivors a little bit more of what they need to hear and see as well,” Garcia explained. He acknowledged that people are pressing for names of prominent individuals involved who may have been redacted from released documents.

Regarding Ghislaine Maxwell, Garcia expressed distrust in Todd Blanche’s actions. He questioned why Maxwell was moved and why Blanche is reportedly having “secret meetings” with her. “WE SHOULD TRUST NOTHING THAT TODD BLANCHE DOES AS IT RELATES TO GHISLAINE MAXWELL,” he stated, calling her continued placement in a lower-security facility “disrespectful to the survivors.” The committee intends to pursue further subpoenas to uncover the full truth.
