Clinton Hearings: A ‘Textbook Case of Misogyny,’ Says Expert

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's testimony regarding Jeffrey Epstein was marred by what an expert calls "textbook misogyny," including irrelevant and aggressive questioning. In contrast, Bill Clinton was treated with deference, highlighting a perceived double standard. The hearings also touched on Donald Trump's past ties to Epstein and the political implications of the Iran intervention.

Clintons Testify on Epstein, But Hillary Faces Scrutiny

Former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton testified before the U.S. House Oversight Committee earlier this week as part of an investigation into financier Jeffrey Epstein. While the testimonies were conducted behind closed doors, insights into the proceedings have emerged, drawing sharp criticism regarding the treatment of Hillary Clinton.

Allegations of Misogyny in Committee Hearings

Sarah Baxter, Director of the Mary Calving Center for International Reporting, described the treatment of Hillary Clinton during her testimony as a “textbook case of misogyny.” Baxter highlighted the stark contrast in how the former President and former Secretary of State were handled by the committee, led by Republican Chairman James Comer.

“The astonishing thing… is that this was almost a textbook case of misogyny regarding the treatment of um former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and former President Bill Clinton.”

According to Baxter, Hillary Clinton was shown a photograph of her husband, Bill Clinton, in a compromising situation, reportedly from the Epstein files. This line of questioning, Baxter argued, was inappropriate and irrelevant to her testimony, especially given her stated lack of knowledge about Jeffrey Epstein’s activities.

“Why was she being shown a picture of her husband in what might appear to be a compromising situation that has nothing to do with her? And it was really extraordinary that she was called to give evidence at all,” Baxter stated. She further noted that Hillary Clinton was questioned about the Pizzagate conspiracy theory, a baseless online fabrication, which the former Secretary of State herself characterized as a “vile smear.”

Bill Clinton’s Testimony: Treated with ‘Kid Gloves’

In contrast, Bill Clinton’s testimony was described as being handled with extreme deference. Committee Chairman James Comer reportedly referred to him as a “southern gentleman” and found him cooperative. Headlines suggested Bill Clinton declared Donald Trump innocent, a claim Baxter clarified was a misrepresentation of his statement. Bill Clinton had stated that Trump never said anything to him that made him believe he was involved with Epstein.

Baxter observed that Bill Clinton, who stated, “I saw nothing and I did nothing. I did nothing wrong,” appeared to have “charmed the committee.” This lenient treatment, juxtaposed with the aggressive questioning of Hillary Clinton, underscored Baxter’s assertion of a gendered double standard.

“He was completely treated with kid gloves. He seems to have charmed the committee. Whereas Hillary was has been accused of shrieking. That’s seems an odd word. She might have been testy. I very much doubt she was shrieking,” Baxter commented.

Epstein, Trump, and Shifting Narratives

The testimonies also touched upon the relationship between Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein. Bill Clinton reportedly clarified the origins of their falling out, stating that Trump had broken off relations with Epstein over a land deal. This account contrasts with the narrative that Trump ended ties due to moral indignation over Epstein’s alleged crimes, a point significant to Trump’s own defense against associations with Epstein.

“Recollections may vary as the famous saying goes and Bill Clinton said in testimony that Trump told him that he’d broken off relations with Epstein… over a land deal which was indeed the original story behind their fallout,” Baxter explained. She noted that this has since been altered to present Trump as “morally indignant.”

Broader Political Context: Iran Intervention and MAGA Faction

The discussion also pivoted to the U.S. military intervention in Iran, drawing parallels to the Epstein investigation’s political ramifications. Baxter noted that a small faction within the MAGA base, which had previously challenged Trump over his stance on Epstein, was also expressing opposition to military action in Iran. This group, including figures like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Representative Thomas Massie, has joined forces with Democrats to demand congressional authorization for the war.

“What struck me about the Thomas Massie Republican with Ro Cana um a Democrat alliance is that it’s the same pair who have been holding Trump’s feet to the fire and others over the release of the Epstein files,” Baxter observed. She suggested that this intervention could lead to further fragmentation within the MAGA movement, as the action against Iran is reportedly deeply unpopular among the general American population.

Looking Ahead

The full transcripts and video evidence from the Clinton testimonies are expected to be released, which may provide further clarity on the proceedings. The contrast in treatment between Bill and Hillary Clinton is likely to remain a focal point of discussion, raising questions about fairness and gender bias in political investigations. Additionally, the political fallout from the Iran intervention and its impact on the MAGA base will be closely watched.
