Massie: Iran Strike Won’t Bury Epstein Files, Calls for Trump Deposition
GOP Rep. Thomas Massie argues that military actions in Iran are a distraction from the Jeffrey Epstein investigation, calling for Donald Trump's deposition. Bill Clinton's testimony offers a new perspective on Trump's past relationship with Epstein, potentially contradicting Trump's own accounts.
GOP Rep. Massie Links Iran Strike to Epstein File Distraction
Republican Congressman Thomas Massie suggested this week that recent military actions in Iran are an attempt by the Trump administration to divert public attention from the ongoing Jeffrey Epstein investigation. Massie tweeted, “Bombing a country on the other side of the globe won’t make the Epstein files go away any more than the Dow going above 50,000 will.” This statement comes as the House Oversight Committee has released deposition videos related to the Epstein case, including testimony from former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
Clintons Testify, Suggest Trump Deposition
In a notable development, the House Oversight Committee released deposition videos featuring Bill and Hillary Clinton. Hillary Clinton, drawing from her experience investigating President Richard Nixon, proposed that President Donald Trump should be included on the witness list for the Epstein investigation. “I THINK IT WOULD BE IN KEEPING WITH THE SCOPE OF THE INVESTIGATION OF THIS COMMITTEE TO… set up a deposition with President Trump,” she stated. She acknowledged Trump’s history of extensive depositions and invoking the Fifth Amendment, but asserted, “given what’s in the files… he would be on my witness list.”
Bill Clinton provided testimony regarding a past conversation with Donald Trump about Jeffrey Epstein. “The president never, this is 20-something years ago, never said anything to me to make me think he was involved in anything improper in regard to to have seen either. He, he just didn’t. He just said we were friends and then we had a falling out over a land deal, property deal,” Clinton recalled.
Details of Trump-Epstein Falling Out Emerge
During his deposition, Bill Clinton detailed a conversation he had with Donald Trump on a golf course. The setting was a charity golf tournament called the “Safe at Home Foundation,” designed to combat domestic violence. Trump, who had provided the golf course, joined players for a few holes. Clinton recounted that Trump mentioned having flown on Epstein’s aircraft and that they had “some great times together over the years, but we fell out all because of a real estate deal.” Clinton added, “I’m sorry it up. That’s all.” This account contrasts with other explanations of their falling out.
Lawmakers Connect Iran Action to Epstein Probe
Democratic Congressman Ro Khanna of California, a co-sponsor with Congressman Massie of a resolution aimed at limiting the President’s war-making authority in Iran without congressional approval, echoed concerns about distraction. “I’M I’M NOT QUITE SURE, TO BE HONEST. BUT I THINK THE EPSTEIN FILE IS ABSOLUTELY A BIG PART OF IT AND ALL OF WHAT WE ARE SEEING,” Khanna said when asked if President Trump was trying to distract from the Epstein case with the Iran situation.
Khanna criticized the Trump administration’s foreign policy, particularly regarding Iran. “REMEMBER THAT DONALD TRUMP AND J .D. VANCE RAN AS THE PEACE CANDIDATES. THEY SAID THAT VICE PRESIDENT HARRIS WAS GOING TO GET US INTO A WAR IN IRAN AND CAUSE WORLD WAR III. NEVER IN THE MODERN HISTORY OF THIS COUNTRY HAS SOMEONE LIED AS BLATANTLY AND WON OFFICE ON SUCH A FALSE PRETENSE,” Khanna stated. He argued that the American people prefer domestic investment over military spending, saying, “THE AMERICAN PEOPLE DON’T WANT PEOPLE DYING FOR WAR THEY DON’T WANT OUR BILLIONS OF DOLLARS GOING ON BOMBS THERE INSTEAD OF HOUSING HERE, JOBS HERE, CHILDCARE HERE.” Khanna expressed optimism about passing their resolution, anticipating support from a unified Democratic caucus and potentially some Republicans.
Mounting Pressure for Trump and Melania Trump Testimony
Congressman Khanna emphasized that the ongoing revelations and testimony, particularly from Bill Clinton, increase the pressure on Donald Trump to testify. “He realizes that with President Clinton testifying, the pressure is mounting for him to testify. That’s why he didn’t want Clinton, the Clintons to testify,” Khanna asserted.
Khanna also called for testimony from Melania Trump, questioning the discrepancy between Bill Clinton’s account of Trump’s falling out with Epstein and Trump’s own explanations. “Why is it that he had a falling out? Because President Clinton’s account of why Donald Trump had a falling out with Jeffrey Epstein is very different than the account that Donald Trump has been giving,” Khanna posed. He further raised questions about missing witness interviews related to accusations against Epstein and the relationship between the Trumps and Epstein. “And with the first lady, we’ll be respectful, but she has to answer some basic questions. Because unlike first lady Clinton, Secretary Clinton, she actually knew Epstein. What was her WHAT WAS THE RELATIONSHIP? WHAT DID SHE KNOW ABOUT EPSTEIN’S ABUSE?”
Khanna pointed to Donald Trump’s own statements that “everyone knew” about Epstein’s activities, suggesting this includes his wife and former cabinet members like Howard Lutnick. “It would include his wife and it would include his cabinet member, Howard Lutnake, who years afterwards is out there doing business. But I think that it’s very appropriate to ask the first lady Trump, when did she know? Why did she continue to have an engagement with him? Did she know if there were other young girls who were being abused? And what was the relationship between her and President Trump and Epstein? I mean, we need to know these details. Just as a matter of fact.”
Clinton Testimony Contradicts Trump’s Account
The testimony from Bill Clinton is significant as it appears to be the first on record where a witness has directly recounted a conversation with Donald Trump about Jeffrey Epstein. “I DON’T REMEMBER ANY OTHER TESTIMONY WHERE A WITNESS HAS TOLD THE COMMITTEE THAT WE KNOW ABOUT, ABOUT A CONVERSATION WITH DONALD TRUMP ABOUT JEFFREY EPSTEIN,” Khanna confirmed. He highlighted that Clinton’s account directly contradicts Trump’s public statements, noting that Clinton himself stated he didn’t know if Trump had done anything wrong but recounted what Trump had told him.
Looking Ahead
As the House prepares for a vote on the resolution limiting military action in Iran, the spotlight on the Epstein investigation intensifies. The calls for Donald Trump and Melania Trump to testify, coupled with the emerging contradictions in past statements, suggest that the Epstein files are far from being buried by geopolitical events. The coming days will likely reveal whether the pressure mounts for full disclosure and accountability.
