The highly anticipated bout will kick off WrestleMania on ESPN 2.
McIntyre Promises Unseen Violence vs. Fatu at WrestleMania 42
Drew McIntyre isn’t holding back. He’s promising a level of violence never before seen in WWE when he faces Jacob Fatu in an unsanctioned match at WrestleMania 42.
This isn’t just any match; it’s the first unsanctioned bout at WrestleMania in nine years. WWE itself refused to sanction it, adding a layer of raw intensity to an already heated rivalry.
Appearing on SportsCenter, McIntyre didn’t mince words about what fans can expect. “For our new fans out there, you’re going to see violence you’ve never seen before in professional wrestling at WWE,” he declared.
The Scottish Warrior is ready to settle a score that has been building for weeks, stemming from Fatu costing him the Undisputed WWE Championship. This match offers a no-rules environment, a chance for McIntyre to reclaim what he feels was stolen.
A Rivalry Fueled by Betrayal
The bad blood between McIntyre and Fatu boiled over on SmackDown, leading to this high-stakes WrestleMania showdown. “Jacob cost me that, which is pretty frustrating, but that’s what he does. He steals,” McIntyre explained.
He pointed to Fatu’s past, stating, “Jacob Fatu legitimately spent time in prison. He’s a convict. It comes naturally to him to steal.” McIntyre believes Fatu will ultimately face consequences for his actions, even predicting a return to jail.
McIntyre is particularly frustrated about missing out on the main event of WrestleMania. He feels he should have been walking in as the WWE Champion.
Now, he sees this unsanctioned match as his chance for redemption and a WrestleMania moment he won’t forget. “Tonight, my Mania moment has completely beaten his ass,” McIntyre stated with confidence.
More Than Just Wrestling
Beyond the immediate conflict, the match is set to be a major spectacle. It’s scheduled as the first hour of WrestleMania 42, broadcast live on ESPN 2. McIntyre urged new fans to tune in, emphasizing that this is the night to witness something extraordinary.
“Don’t go to the water cooler tomorrow and hear about WrestleMania. It’s on ESPN 2.
Check it out. That free first hour,” he advised.
McIntyre, who describes himself as a “hybrid athlete,” is also balancing a demanding WWE schedule with his role in the upcoming movie “Highlander.” He was recently seen filming in the Scottish Highlands alongside Henry Cavill. Despite his ventures into Hollywood, WWE remains his primary focus. “WWE is my home.
I can balance it all. I can do it all,” McIntyre asserted, highlighting his dedication.
Scotland’s Footballing Triumph
The conversation also touched upon McIntyre’s home country’s recent success. Scotland has qualified for the World Cup in June, their first appearance since 1998. McIntyre expressed immense excitement for this historic achievement.
“Scotland haven’t been the World Cup since 1998. I was 13 years old. I honestly thought I’d be dead before we got back to the World Cup, but we’re not,” he said, reflecting on the long wait.
McIntyre believes the first hour of WrestleMania, featuring his unsanctioned bout, will be the highlight of the entire event. He confidently predicted that viewers might even wish they had stopped watching after his match. “You’re going to think to yourself, I should have stopped watching after the second match cuz that was the best match on the show by far,” he quipped.
WrestleMania 42 takes place this Saturday and Sunday, with the first hour, including McIntyre vs. Fatu, airing at 6 p.m. ET on ESPN 2.
The rest of the event will be available exclusively on ESPN Unlimited. McIntyre concluded his appearance by reiterating his goal: “I’m going to go kick some ass.”
