He argued this is a dangerous proposition that would strengthen Iran’s position. “The idea that we would pass a war powers resolution demanding the immediate withdrawal of all U.S. troops in the region is insane, and frankly, strengthens the Iranian regime’s hand,” Lawler stated.

Lawler explained that the President already has the authority to conduct military operations under Article 2 of the Constitution. He also pointed out that the War Powers Act allows the President 60 to 90 days for military actions before Congress needs to take further steps. Lawler believes this time should be used to negotiate a peace, which should include Iran giving up its enriched uranium program.

“The President is well within his authorities to conduct this war, to conduct these strikes. Congress has not declared war since World War II.”

He stressed the need for cooperation with immigration enforcement and long-term reform, but insisted that illegal immigrants should not be allowed into the country. He stated that Democrats want to return to the “open days of Joe Biden,” which he opposes.

Lawler indicated that Republicans plan to pass a Homeland Security funding package and a reconciliation bill to fully fund ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). This aims to counter what he sees as a move towards open borders and a weakening of border security.
