The ‘Handsome Devil’s’ Violent Descent: A Trail of Abuse

The moniker “Handsome Devil” belies a darkness that consumed Wade Wilson, a man whose escalating violence left a trail of terror and trauma. What began as a heated argument in February 2019 spiraled into a horrifying ordeal for one woman, Kelly, marking the beginning of a chilling pattern of abuse that would later claim another life.

The Florida Keys Ordeal

On February 18th, 2019, a domestic dispute between Wade Wilson and his girlfriend, Kelly, took a terrifying turn. According to accounts, Wilson allegedly kidnapped Kelly, forcing her into the trunk of her own car. He then embarked on a harrowing 3.5-hour drive to the Florida Keys, with Kelly trapped inside. During this ordeal, Wilson is accused of beating and sexually assaulting Kelly, binding her with her own clothing, and gagging her with leggings. In the struggle to subdue her, her foot was allegedly broken when Wilson slammed the car door on it.

During the drive, I mean, it’s 3 1/2 hours, at some point he got hungry, so he pulled into a McDonald’s drive-through and ordered food with her still in the trunk.

Wilson reportedly disabled the car’s OnStar system and stole Kelly’s phone, which he allegedly sold for drugs. Upon reaching the Keys around 4:00 AM, Wilson met another woman and released Kelly, even returning her car keys. Kelly, though traumatized and injured, managed to drive back to Palm Beach County and immediately sought medical attention. Hospital records documented lacerations, bite marks, a busted lip, and a sexual assault kit was administered. Despite Kelly’s desire to press charges and the documented evidence, the case reportedly stalled, with allegations of lost or insufficient evidence and police mishandling hindering any prosecution.

A Pattern of Violence

While the initial case against Wilson went inactive, his history suggested a continued pattern of violent behavior. Reports indicated he had abused or been violent towards several other women. There were also unsubstantiated accounts of him stabbing a man he may have dated.

The Murder of Kristine Melton

By October 2019, Wilson was dating Melissa Montanez. On October 6th, after a night out at a club in Fort Myers, Wilson met Jayson Shepard. When Melissa expressed reluctance to go to Shepard’s place, Wilson allegedly stole Melissa’s car and met up with Kristine Melton and her friend Stephanie Johnson. Wilson, who introduced himself as “Junior” to Stephanie, had reportedly been intimate with Kristine.

The following morning, Wilson attempted to drive Kristine and Stephanie back to Kristine’s home in Cape Coral. Struggling with the manual transmission of the stolen car, they eventually arrived at Kristine’s house. Stephanie left shortly after, needing to attend to her child and work.

What transpired next remains largely unknown, but shortly after Stephanie’s departure, Wilson allegedly strangled Kristine to death. He then stole Kristine’s car and, around 8:00 AM, contacted Melissa. After a heated argument about the stolen car, Wilson drove to Melissa’s workplace in downtown Fort Myers.

Assault on Melissa Montanez

Upon arriving at Melissa’s workplace, Wilson attempted to force her into Kristine’s car. When Melissa resisted, he allegedly tackled, beat, and choked her, dragging her upstairs and pinning her against a wall. During the brutal assault, Wilson punched Melissa in the face with such force that she began bleeding heavily. This moment of apparent shock or clarity for Wilson allowed Melissa to escape and lock herself in a room. Wilson then fled in Kristine’s car.

The Final Encounter

Wilson’s violent spree continued. Between 9:30 AM and 11:00 AM, he returned to Cape Coral and spotted Diane Ruiz walking to work. He allegedly pulled over, requesting directions, and somehow convinced Ruiz to get into the car with him to assist him. The transcript ends here, leaving the fate of Diane Ruiz and the full extent of Wilson’s actions tragically unclear.

Justice and Lingering Questions

The narrative presented highlights a disturbing pattern of escalating violence and alleged failures within the justice system. The initial mishandling of Kelly’s case and the subsequent lack of immediate action against Wilson allowed his violent behavior to continue, culminating in the alleged murder of Kristine Melton and the brutal assault on Melissa Montanez. The case underscores the critical importance of thorough investigations, proper evidence preservation, and holding perpetrators accountable to prevent further harm and ensure justice for victims.
