McAfee’s Neck Scare, WWE Exit: ‘I’m Done,’ Says Star

Pat McAfee is calling it a career in WWE. After a chaotic weekend that saw him potentially injure his neck and get involved in a wild brawl, the popular personality announced he’s officially retired from the wrestling world.

“I think right now is probably a good time for me to head out,” McAfee stated. This decision comes after a series of events that left him physically battered and questioning his involvement.

The trouble started with a surprising turn of events involving country music star Jelly Roll. McAfee explained that he and Jelly Roll were friends, but things took a turn when Jelly Roll accused him of telling Randy Orton to attack him.

“Jelly what are we doing?” McAfee questioned, recalling the moment. This led to a physical confrontation where McAfee claims Jelly Roll’s actions caused him to nearly break his neck.

A Chaotic Night and a Neck Brace

The situation escalated quickly. McAfee described being in a neck brace after the initial incident, with doctors advising him to keep his neck stable. Despite this, he felt compelled to get involved as a referee, fearing something might happen.

“I was going to go ref just in case something happens, you know, get ready,” he explained. His fears were realized when he was attacked, possibly by Jelly Roll again, leading to more physical punishment.

McAfee admitted he might have pushed things too far in trying to motivate his friend, Randy Orton. He wanted Orton to be the ultimate champion, believing that for the future of wrestling, someone like Orton needed to “GET THE STRAP, GET THE TITLE.” However, his intense encouragement seemed to backfire, contributing to the chaos that unfolded.

Cody Rhodes Steals the Show

Amidst the mayhem, Cody Rhodes emerged victorious over Randy Orton. McAfee acknowledged Rhodes’s impressive win, stating, “Cody Rhodess somehow hits the crossroads on Randy.” He noted that Orton was distracted, partly by the desire to deal with McAfee’s neck issues. Rhodes’s victory seemed to solidify his status, with McAfee conceding that “The American Nightmare still got the throne.” This outcome meant the business didn’t need saving after all, according to McAfee.

Physical Toll and Acknowledging the Pain

McAfee detailed the physical aftermath. He confirmed he had scans done on his neck, which he hoped would show he was healthy.

“I’m very grateful and hopeful that I’ll be completely healthy, but there is some soreness obviously,” he said. He also suffered cuts, bruises, and even shrapnel from an exploding table, with one splinter lodging in a rather uncomfortable place.

He reassured fans that he was okay, despite appearing lifeless at one point. “I did seem lifeless there for a bit,” he recalled, “but I am very okay.” He described the feeling of being hit and falling as being in a dream, a jarring experience that left him breathless.

A Vegas Farewell

Before officially stepping away from WWE, McAfee took a trip down memory lane in Las Vegas. He enjoyed a night out, experiencing a club atmosphere reminiscent of his past.

He even shared a moment with 50 Cent, appreciating the full-circle feeling of his time in the wrestling world. “This is a good way to go out of wrestling,” he reflected.

McAfee concluded by expressing gratitude for his time in WWE. He called it an “honor” and thanked the company and the roster for an incredible run. “Thank you, wrestling.

Hell of a run,” he said. He also acknowledged that he might have been too intense in his efforts to motivate, sometimes saying things that were perhaps too harsh.

Looking Ahead

With his WWE career seemingly over, McAfee is focusing on his recovery and future endeavors. He confirmed that while he was physically affected, his body was otherwise okay after being checked.

He also mentioned that some people, like Omar from the SportsCenter account, had said “rude things,” but he took responsibility for some of his own provocative comments. The wrestling world will be watching to see what McAfee does next.
