Kendall Wells’ Record-Breaking Season Continues with Epic Comeback Win

The Oklahoma Sooners proved their mettle once again, staging a dramatic comeback win against a tough Arkansas squad. Freshman phenom Kendall Wells was at the forefront, contributing to a victory that keeps the number one ranked Sooners rolling. This win showcased the team’s resilience, a key trait as they push towards their ultimate goal.

Wells described the game as tough from the start, acknowledging Arkansas as a great team. “Just staying composed, keeping it simple, piecing together base hits to drive score runs,” she explained about their strategy. The Sooners executed this plan perfectly, pulling off the win against a very strong opponent.

A “Surreal” Season for the Freshman Star

For Kendall Wells, her freshman season with the Sooners has been nothing short of extraordinary. She described the experience as “a little surreal” and “super fun.” Wells thrives on being surrounded by elite players and coaches who constantly push her to be her best self.

“Just being able to grow and learn as I’ve been here has been super cool to me,” Wells shared. She admitted her initial goals were far simpler than her current reality. “Like simple ones, you know, like everybody start,” she said, laughing.

Chasing History: The NCAA Home Run Record

Wells is on the verge of breaking the NCAA freshman home run record, currently held by Arizona’s Laura Espinosa with 37 homers in 1995. While she didn’t know the record existed before the season, it’s now a frequent topic in interviews.

“I think it would be super cool. Just honestly, like a testimony of all my hard work and all the work that we do here,” Wells stated. She credits her success to the training with coach JT and her dedication over the years.

Her approach to chasing the record is straightforward: “I think I’m going to keep swinging swinging hard, swinging at strikes. See how it goes.”

Favorite Blast and Team Chemistry

When asked about her favorite home run of the season, Wells pointed to a recent blast against Texas. “That was just a super cool environment.

I did it to, you know, give us the lead in the game and that was just super big game,” she recalled. The moment was made even more special by her teammates mobbing her at home plate, a clear sign of their strong bond.

Coach Patty Gasso affectionately calls Wells the “class clown,” a nickname Wells embraces. “I have a lot of fun with my teammates.

I’m super loud and outgoing, so I really love my teammates and just being around them,” she explained. While she admits to being a little loud, she knows her coach appreciates her energetic personality.

Looking Ahead: Championship Dreams

With the NCAA home run record within reach and the Sooners ranked number one, the team has their sights set on the ultimate prize: a national championship. Wells’ individual success is a significant part of the team’s overall strength and their pursuit of another title.

The Oklahoma Sooners are proving to be a dominant force this season. Wells’ incredible performance, combined with the team’s never-quit attitude, makes them a serious contender. Their next game is crucial as they continue their march towards the championship.
