Husband Freed in Wife’s Disappearance, Doubts Linger

Authorities in the Bahamas have released Brian, the husband of missing Michigan woman Lynette, who vanished nearly 10 days ago. Brian was taken into custody after his wife disappeared on April 4th during a boating trip. The police commissioner stated the decision to release him came after meetings with prosecutors. However, officials noted that this does not mean the investigation is over, and he may still be considered a suspect.

Brian has consistently said that Lynette fell overboard from their small boat in rough seas, high winds, and darkness. He claims he threw a net and a flotation device, and last saw her as strong currents pulled them apart. He says he spent hours drifting nearly 7 miles before reaching shore around 4:00 AM and getting help. Search teams have been trying to find Lynette ever since.

Family Questions and Past Concerns Surface

While Brian denies any wrongdoing, friends and family have raised many questions due to the unusual circumstances. Reports of a troubled past between the couple have also come to light. A friend of Lynette shared text messages from 2024 with CBS News, suggesting she had concerns about being with Brian. In one message, she wrote about their split, saying, “I’m not going back.” When asked about reconciliation, she responded, “It was real bad. I can’t be out there with him now.” This paints a very different picture from the public image of a happy couple.

Daughter and Boyfriend Speak Out

Lynette’s daughter, Carly Aylesworth, and her boyfriend, Steve Hansen, shared their opinions on the situation. Carly expressed that she is glad no charges were filed yet, but believes the investigation is not over. “We’re not done. Looking… is going to head down there and do their own investigation,” she said. Steve added that they only ask for a thorough and diligent investigation, ensuring all evidence is examined.

Coast Guard Involvement and Past History

Carly mentioned speaking with the Coast Guard, who confirmed they handed over all gathered information about Brian and his history with Lynette to the Bahamian police. This information reportedly includes details about his criminal history, possible child abuse, and choking incidents involving Lynette. The couple plans to travel to the Bahamas to conduct their own investigation and speak with locals.

Brian’s Behavior and Family’s Doubts

The family also discussed Brian’s behavior after Lynette’s disappearance. Carly stated she only spoke to him once when he called Sunday night to say Lynette was missing. He had left voicemails and text messages, but she had not been answering his calls. Steve described Brian’s demeanor during their conversation as monotone and lacking expression, which he found strange, especially given the circumstances. “It was just very monotone. No expression. Like, voice inflections, no pitch,” Steve said. He noted that Brian’s reaction seemed surreal, especially when he said, “By the way, your mom fell overboard.” Carly questioned whether this was typical behavior for Brian or if it was unusual.

Accident or Intentional Act?

When asked if they believe the incident was an accident, Carly and Steve expressed strong doubts. Carly stated, “I don’t believe this is an accident because she’s a really fit woman.” She explained that Lynette, despite physical limitations from past injuries, is active with yoga and cross-training. “She’s a fit woman. So this doesn’t make any sense,” Carly added. They also noted that Lynette was usually careful about staying in the boat during storms.

Steve suggested that if it was an accident, Brian might have seen an opportunity. “Maybe lose her had all the way or with the broke in or or paddle he could of hit her. And that’s how it where he pushed her in,” he speculated. He also wondered if Brian might have removed his watch and thrown it away before the incident.

Search for Evidence and Surveillance Footage

Carly and Steve are hoping to find more evidence, perhaps at the restaurant bar where the couple was last seen. They are waiting for authorities to share any information, including potential surveillance footage. Steve mentioned that there might be a broken paddle that could hold clues, like blood, or show signs of being recently cleaned.

With Brian released without charges, the questions surrounding Lynette’s disappearance continue to grow. The family is determined to find answers and understand what truly happened on that water.
