Zelensky Warns of World War if Ukraine Conflict Isn’t Stopped

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a stark warning, stating that the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, if not stopped, could escalate into a global war akin to World War II. He highlighted the growing collaboration between Russia and Iran, the world's unpreparedness for modern warfare, and the pervasive threat of disinformation.

Zelensky Issues Stark Warning: Unchecked Aggression Risks Global Conflict

In a candid and urgent address, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has warned that the ongoing war in Ukraine, if not decisively halted, could escalate into a global conflict, potentially mirroring the scale of World War II. Speaking on the recent wave of drone and missile attacks impacting civilians, Zelensky drew parallels between the experiences of Ukrainians and the potential future for others, urging a more robust international response to what he described as “evil.”

The Ripple Effect: From Ukraine to Global Security

Zelensky’s remarks came in the wake of a direct question about whether recent attacks on civilian populations might serve as a turning point, prompting a broader realization of the war’s abstract nature. He expressed a fervent hope for this awakening, lamenting the historical tendency of some nations, particularly in the Middle East, to balance economic ties with Russia against the clear aggression. “Middle East is always try to balance because of the long history of economic relations with Russians. They try to balance. Yes, they understood and understand that this is a aggressor, but they’ve been not too much loud about it and been not very strong against Russia,” Zelensky stated.

However, the situation is evolving. Zelensky noted that as nations begin to experience similar attacks, the abstract nature of the conflict is giving way to a visceral understanding of living under siege. “But now they began to understand what does it mean how to live under attacks,” he observed, drawing a parallel to the harsh winters Ukrainians endured, suggesting that even the intense summer heat faced by some regions could be exacerbated by energy infrastructure attacks, a tactic employed by Russia and Iran.

Iran’s Role and the Escalation of Threats

A significant point of concern for Zelensky is the increasing involvement of Iran, particularly the supply of drones and potentially missile technology. He revealed intelligence indicating that components used in these weapons bear Russian markings, suggesting a deeper collaboration than publicly acknowledged. “I can honestly speak about it because even Shahis, you know, there are a lot of details from Russia. It came already. We saw some of details. My intelligence showed me images where we see this made in Russia. So this is what we understand. Yeah. We we we can estimate that it is Russian details, not Iranians,” he explained.

This collaboration, Zelensky argued, extends beyond Ukraine, with Iran also targeting American bases and soldiers in the Middle East. This widening scope of conflict represents, in his view, the “biggest risk” the world has faced in recent years, with the chilling possibility of a World War if such aggression is not contained. “If this war in Middle East will not stop like the has had to stop Putin at the very beginning. So if it’s if the war you know if the war immediately is not stopped by somebody and it mean that it can be long long war it can be world war,” he cautioned.

A World Unprepared for the Next Stage of Warfare

Zelensky expressed deep concern that the world is not adequately prepared for the potential escalation. He specifically pointed to the lack of readiness in Europe, despite efforts by some nations like Germany and the Nordic countries. While acknowledging the strength of the U.S. military, he highlighted that traditional land warfare experience might not be sufficient for a conflict dominated by missiles and drones. “If we speak about missiles war and drone war it’s not about the land war. We have to understand it’s not about land war. So nobody has now experience with the land forces what we have… this is about land war and this is very very dangerous new technologies new war new attitude to the people really And uh that’s why I mean civilians and and that’s why I think this is the world is not ready for the world war because world war will not be just drones and missiles in any way. It will be with the land forces with land offensives steps and a global number of losses.”

He also touched upon the alarming possibility of further international alliances forming, such as if allies were to publicly support the Iranian regime, or if Russia were to deploy foreign troops, citing the presence of North Korean soldiers on Russian territory as a precedent. “Russia can send troops. Do you think the world is prepared for this alliance? The world is not prepared from the um technical side. Uh not enough prepared Europe.”

Combating Disinformation and the Propaganda War

The Ukrainian President also addressed the pervasive issue of disinformation, noting that the Kremlin is actively engaged in propaganda efforts that are being amplified by some politicians in the EU and beyond. “Because it works. It’s today one of the instruments how you can influence on other side without spending people by the way without losses,” Zelensky explained, underscoring the strategic use of information warfare by Russia to exert influence across various platforms and continents, including Europe, the United States, Israel, Africa, China, and India.

Criticism of Orban and the Politicization of Sports

Zelensky did not shy away from criticizing specific political figures, referencing Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán’s election campaign, which he noted was largely based on anti-Ukrainian and anti-EU sentiment. “He decided to make election company basing on the hateness to Ukraine Ukrainians to me personally to EU to URL personally,” Zelensky remarked.

Furthermore, he expressed profound disappointment and concern regarding the participation of Russian athletes in the Paralympics, particularly those who had fought in Ukraine and were seen waving Russian flags. Zelensky recounted raising this issue with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, acknowledging the difficulty in influencing international sports committees. “This is you know the isolation program of Russia and the committee is one of the instruments. they will do it in uh I I don’t know in soccer cups in sport is big big influence because the audience is very big that’s why Russia need their flags they they need their uh victories there to show that they I mean this are not isolated,” he stated, emphasizing the need to counter such propaganda with the tools available.

A Call for Unity and Resilience

Despite the grave warnings and complex challenges, Zelensky concluded with a message of resilience, highlighting the importance of Ukrainian athletes’ performances at the Paralympic Games as a source of strength and a message to both Ukrainians and Russia. “Our victory uh or our medals our victory I mean this is important first of all for these people they are very strong people great people for our sportsman but also very important for Ukraine they do a great job because it’s also gives you know a kick to Russians. So I hope that we will win.”

The President’s remarks underscore a critical juncture in the global security landscape, where the conflict in Ukraine is increasingly seen not just as a regional war, but as a potential catalyst for wider international instability. The coming months will be crucial in determining whether the world community can unite effectively to prevent further escalation and address the root causes of aggression.
