US Declares Military Victory in Iran Conflict

In a significant shift in U.S. foreign policy, Ambassador to the United Nations Mike Waltz stated that the United States has achieved extraordinary military objectives against Iran, effectively crippling its military capabilities and ending a 47-year conflict. Speaking on “Meet the Press,” Ambassador Waltz asserted that President Trump is taking decisive action to neutralize the threat posed by Iran, a move he believes many predecessors failed to undertake.

Decisive Military Action Against Iranian Threats

Ambassador Waltz detailed the extensive military achievements one week into the operation. “Iran’s air force has been effectively laid out, Iran’s air defenses destroyed, almost completely integrated,” he reported. The ambassador also highlighted the destruction of over 40 Iranian ships and a severe degradation of Iran’s ability to produce ballistic missiles and drones. These weapons systems have been instrumental in Iran’s regional aggression, supplying Russia for use in Ukraine and terrorizing Israel and its Gulf neighbors.

“The Iranian regime started this war in 1979, under Jimmy Carter, and thank God for President Trump. He is taking the old, decisive action that so many of his predecessors have failed to do, to end it, and to end this threat to the American people and our allies once and for all.”

Trump Administration’s Stance on the Conflict

When pressed on whether the United States is at war with Iran, Ambassador Waltz clarified the administration’s perspective. “I describe it as Iran has been at war with us, as I just said,” he stated. He deferred to legal experts regarding the War Powers Act but emphasized that Congressional leaders have been consistently briefed by Secretary Rubio. The ambassador underscored the long-standing human cost of Iranian aggression, pointing to over 600 American soldiers killed by Iranian attacks and its proxies, including Hezbollah, Hamas, and the Houthis.

President Trump’s approach, as described by Waltz, prioritizes decisive action after diplomatic efforts failed. “It was clear the Iranians were not negotiating in good faith, had no intention of backing away from its nuclear intentions,” Waltz explained, referencing Iran’s quadrupling production of ballistic missiles. “Finally, President Trump said enough is enough.”

‘Unconditional Surrender’ as the Endgame

Ambassador Waltz addressed President Trump’s statement that “There will be no deal with Iran, except unconditional surrender.” While leaving the precise definition to the Commander-in-Chief, Waltz outlined the core objectives: “no nuclear weapons program, no ballistic missiles that can deliver a nuke, no massive shield which with they will hide behind, and drones, which we are seeing them unleash on our neighbors and our world.” He added that Iran’s 47-year support of terrorism globally must cease, emphasizing that the world’s largest sponsor of terrorism must change its behavior.

The administration seeks an Iranian government that “no longer threatens the American people, threatens our allies and threatens the world, and holds the world’s energy supply hostage through both its missiles and its navy.”

U.S. Troops on the Ground and Future Strategy

Addressing reports of President Trump’s interest in deploying U.S. boots on the ground in Iran, Ambassador Waltz stated he would not get ahead of those conversations. However, he assured that, unlike his predecessors, President Trump “is never going to take options off the table.” As a former special operator, Waltz highlighted the U.S. military’s capabilities in dealing with weapons of mass destruction and reiterated President Trump’s consistent campaign promise: “Iran can never have a nuke and he will do what’s necessary to make sure they don’t.” He characterized President Trump’s supporters as voting for a leader who “means what he says, stands on his redlines, doesn’t back away from a mess, and never takes a bad deal that’s going to keep the American people less safe in the long run.”

Russia’s Role and Sanctions

Ambassador Waltz also addressed the reported intelligence sharing between Russia and Iran. While acknowledging a strong message has been sent to Russia, he expressed confidence that President Trump would deal with the matter accordingly. He pointed out that Russia has lost its primary supplier of one-way drones and ballistic missiles to Ukraine due to President Trump’s actions. “President Trump has taken incredibly decisive action and finally sanctioning both main energy suppliers, that’s the main form of revenue going into Russia,” Waltz noted.

Regarding a temporary easing of oil sanctions on Russia, Waltz described it as a “common sense” pause to allow millions of barrels of oil to reach refineries. He reiterated that the Trump administration has taken tough measures to reduce Russia’s revenue, framing this as a short-term measure for the long-term gain of securing global energy supplies. He also emphasized the importance of President Trump’s energy agenda, “Drill, Baby Drill,” to unleash American oil and gas production and diversify global supplies.

Investigation into Civilian Casualties

On the incident involving a strike on a school in southern Iran that resulted in over 107 casualties, Ambassador Waltz urged for the investigation to play out. He contrasted the U.S. military’s operational principles with those of the Iranian regime, stating, “As a veteran of special operations, we never deliberately attack civilians. If civilians were injured, it’s always by accident.” He accused Iran of hiding weapons caches in hospitals and schools, a practice he called characteristic of a regime that has “literally massacred its own people.”

Allies’ Response and Future Outlook

Ambassador Waltz concluded by noting that U.S. allies at the United Nations are “outraged” and preparing to take military and diplomatic action in the coming days and weeks. He believes that Iran’s strategy of regional aggression is backfiring, and that President Trump’s decisive actions are leading towards a safer, stronger, and more prosperous world. The U.S. military’s success in degrading Iran’s capabilities means Russia will no longer receive critical drone and missile components from Iran.
