Trump Takes Tough Stance on Iran, Ex-GOP Chair Says

Former President Donald Trump's strong stance against Iran, including threats of widespread destruction, is being praised by former GOP chair Chad Connelly. Connelly believes Trump is the first president with the "guts" to confront the Iranian regime, despite concerns over rhetoric and shifting narratives. The discussion also covered the potential for an Iranian uprising and the long-standing desire for regime change in the region.

Trump’s Strong Words for Iran Draw Attention

Former President Donald Trump has adopted a forceful stance against Iran, with a former Republican Party official praising his willingness to confront the regime. Chad Connelly, a former GOP chair for South Carolina and national director of faith engagement, stated that Trump is the first president with the “guts” to challenge Iran. This comes as Middle East tensions escalate, impacting global gas prices and financial markets.

“Praise Be to Allah”: Trump’s Easter Message and Threats

President Trump spent Easter morning posting on social media, directing strong words at Iran and signing off with “Praise be to Allah.” He reiterated these threats at the White House Easter Egg Roll, speaking about potential destruction against Iran while a band played in the background. “The entire country could be taken out in one night and that night might be tomorrow night,” Trump stated during a press conference. These remarks have drawn significant attention, particularly given the timing around Easter.

Connelly Defends Trump’s Approach

During an interview, Connelly addressed concerns about Trump’s rhetoric, especially his Easter message. He compared it to the Biden administration’s actions, noting that the administration celebrated National Trans Visibility Day on Good Friday. Connelly believes Trump is at a point of “total frustration” with the Iranian regime, citing its long history of actions against Americans and global allies. He pointed to Iran’s alleged financing of groups like the Houthis, Hamas, and Hezbollah.

“People want to see this regime ended. They want to see regime change in Iran,” Connelly said. He expressed a desire for a “new Middle East that’s not having to worry about terrorist supply problems.”

Debate Over Regime Change and Iranian Uprising

The discussion touched on the possibility of regime change in Iran. Connelly suggested it is a time for the Iranian people to rise up, believing that external efforts have been made. “I think we’ve done our part. Israel’s certainly done their part,” he stated. However, the interviewer questioned how this could happen, referencing Trump’s own acknowledgment that people in Iran are being shot when they protest. Connelly responded, “This is their best shot. This is their best shot at freedom in 50 years. This is their best opportunity.”

The possibility of the Shah’s son returning to lead Iran was also raised, but Connelly noted the immediate danger of assassination due to the regime’s continued control. He described the Iranian regime as a “mess,” with internal leadership potentially unaware of who is in charge.

Shifting Narratives and Concerns

The interviewer pointed out that Trump’s own statements have shifted, noting that he initially focused on regime change but later said he couldn’t affect it and was content to monitor Iran’s nuclear program. The interviewer expressed doubt about implicitly trusting Trump, given these changing narratives.

Connelly acknowledged that “sadly, they have too much of a stronghold on this war, on the Strait of Hormuz.” He also mentioned Trump’s earlier comments that women are being shot when they try to protest, indicating awareness of the risks involved for the Iranian people.

“It Comes a Time That the People There Have to Take It Back”

Despite the risks, Connelly maintained that the Iranian people must take back their country. He cited estimates of around 50,000 people killed by their own government. “It comes a time that the people there have to take it back. It’s no choice. You got to take it back,” he urged. He also believes that Middle Eastern allies like the UAE, Saudis, and Jordanians also desire regime change.

Connelly believes the U.S. has done its part by setting back Iran’s nuclear program and disrupting its leadership. “We’ve taken out, as I said, the replacements of the B team, of the JV. We don’t know who the replacements are at this point,” he said, referring to the disruption of Iran’s military leadership.

Past Actions and Future Hopes

The conversation also touched on the execution of a 19-year-old wrestler and the broader human rights abuses by the Iranian regime. Connelly expressed disbelief that some people, even in America, march in support of the Iranian regime, suggesting they are funded by groups seeking disruption.

When asked if there was any caution for Trump’s approach, Connelly reiterated that while caution is always necessary, Trump has taken action where seven previous presidents only talked about preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons. “President Trump is the first guy that’s actually had the guts to do it,” Connelly asserted. He mentioned a meeting with pastors who expressed a strong desire for Trump to finish what he started and for America to help remove the “terrorist regime.”

Looking Ahead

While Trump’s strong rhetoric against Iran continues, the path forward remains uncertain. Iran has rejected a U.S. peace proposal, and no clear timeline for resolution has emerged. The situation highlights the complex geopolitical dynamics in the Middle East and the ongoing debate over how best to address the Iranian regime’s actions.
