Seeking to round out his game, Tillman made a pivotal move to Scotland, a league known for its physicality and intense duels. “And then for me, it was more about the toughness in the game, the duels. Well, that’s one of the reasons why I went to um Scotland to improve my game in that point,” he explained. The Netherlands offered a different, yet equally important, dimension to Tillman’s development. The Dutch Eredivisie, celebrated for its attacking flair and ball-possession-based philosophy, perfectly aligned with his playing style. “The Dutch style of playing football just suits the way I want to play. Ball possession, you offensive attack attacking football,” Tillman stated. This environment allowed him to flourish in possession, driving attacks and showcasing his offensive prowess.

Looking back, Tillman is proud of the unconventional path he has taken. “So far, I think I had a a decent career. I took some steps maybe others wouldn’t, but uh I don’t regret anything,” he asserted. So you have at least one one thing you share with the other guys. So when it comes to to meeting new new teammates, I think we all share the same passion. So it’s easy to to connect,” he revealed. While he describes himself as a “quiet guy,” he emphasizes that on-pitch connection is paramount.

Culture Shock and Culinary Quibbles

The transition to Scotland, however, wasn’t without its hurdles. “It was huge to be honest. I mean back then I wouldn’t say my English was the best. Then going there with their accent it wasn’t easy,” Tillman admitted. The cultural differences were significant, but the camaraderie within the team played a vital role. “I would say my teammates or the people at the club just made my life a lot easier.” However, he humorously noted the culinary challenges: “The food in Scotland is yeah questionable.” He even recounted an instance where he avoided trying haggis, fearing the unknown ingredients after a peculiar explanation from a teammate.
