Shaq’s Olympic Fails: Golf, Hoops, and Football Flops
Shaquille O'Neal participated in a series of athletic challenges dubbed the 'Shaq Olympics' on The Pat McAfee Show. He competed in golf putting, three-point shooting, and a football throw, losing in all events. Shaq also shared his thoughts on the NBA MVP race and the league's current state.
Shaq’s Olympic Fails: Golf, Hoops, and Football Flops
The “Shaq Olympics” kicked off with a bang, or perhaps a whimper, as Shaquille O’Neal took on challenges in golf, basketball, and football. Hosted in the “Thunderdome,” the event saw the legendary big man face off against Pat McAfee Show’s Tai Schmidt and Darius J. Butler in a series of athletic contests. Despite his towering presence and legendary basketball career, Shaq’s performance in these varied sports proved to be less than stellar, much to the amusement of the hosts.
Golf Gone Wrong
The “Shaq Olympics” began with a golf putting challenge. Shaq, admitting he’s never played golf before, stepped up to the plate with a putter that seemed comically small in his hands. The challenge was simple: make more putts than Tai Schmidt. The stakes were high, with the potential for doubled makes if Shaq could beat Tai. However, Shaq struggled immensely, missing putt after putt. He even confessed, “You guys suck at golf. This is disgusting.” Despite having multiple attempts, Shaq failed to sink a single putt, ending the golf portion with zero makes.

Tai Schmidt, on the other hand, needed just one putt to defeat Shaq. The pressure was on, but Tai managed to make his putt, securing victory for himself and leaving Shaq defeated in the first event.
Basketball Blunders
Next up was a basketball three-point shooting contest. The rule was the first to make a three-pointer, with a maximum of five attempts each. Shaq, known for his dominance inside the paint, was mocked for his shooting form, with clips of his internet-mocked shot circulating. Darius J. Butler, a nine-year NFL veteran, stepped up first. To everyone’s surprise, Butler drained his first three-pointer, ending the contest immediately. Shaq, who had yet to take his first shot, was once again on the losing end.

Shaq’s reaction was one of disbelief and frustration. When asked about his thoughts on Butler’s shot, he simply stated, “I don’t like it. I don’t like that it happened.” The basketball challenge, like the golf event, ended in defeat for Shaq.
Football Fumbles
The final event was a football throw into a net positioned above a trash can. The goal was to hit either the top left or top right of the net. Connor, a member of the McAfee crew, took his shot first, narrowly missing the target. Shaq was then given his turn. Despite his athletic background, Shaq’s football-throwing skills were put to the test. His throw sailed under the net, failing to score.
Connor then had another chance to win it for his side. His second throw was a little high and outside, also missing the mark. This meant that both Shaq and Connor failed to make the shot, resulting in a tie that, in the context of the “Olympics,” meant another loss for Shaq’s team.
Connor, after missing his second throw: “DAMN. THAT’S RIGHT. ON YOUR HEAD. YEAH. YEAH.”
The “Shaq Olympics” concluded with Shaq losing in all three events. The playful competition highlighted the challenges faced by athletes when crossing over into different sports, even for someone as renowned as Shaquille O’Neal. Despite the losses, the event provided plenty of entertainment and laughs, showcasing the lighthearted spirit of The Pat McAfee Show.
Shaq’s MVP Rant
Amidst the games, Shaq also weighed in on the NBA MVP debate. He expressed frustration with the criteria, stating, “The criteria is all over the place. I thought it was the baddest player in the league. Now it’s stats and team stats and this and that.” He specifically mentioned his respect for Victor Wembanyama, but questioned the evolving definition of MVP.

Shaq also shared his thoughts on the Eastern Conference, picking the New York Knicks to do well, largely because he believes it will push Jalen Brunson to perform at an even higher level. He also advocated for keeping the NBA’s game schedule as is, telling younger players, “Don’t change it. If we did it, you can do it. You’re making way more money, so you need to be doing more.” The legendary center’s insights offered a glimpse into his perspective on the current state of the league.
