Seth Rollins: From WWE Ring to Hollywood Rejection

In a candid revelation that has sent shockwaves through both the wrestling and cinematic worlds, WWE superstar Seth Rollins has lifted the lid on his near-miss with a role in Marvel’s Captain America franchise. The Architect, known for his electrifying performances in the squared circle, shared his experience of being considered for a part in the blockbuster film, only to have the opportunity slip through his fingers due to studio-driven changes.

A Near Miss with the Star-Spangled Avenger

The story, as recounted by Rollins, paints a picture of what could have been. He described filming scenes where he was involved in intense action sequences, specifically mentioning beating up Anthony Mackie, who portrays Sam Wilson/Captain America. “I had some pretty sick scenes in there where I’m beating up Anthony Mackey,” Rollins revealed. “Um, and I’d love to see where that exists.”

However, the dream of seeing Rollins flex his acting muscles in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) was short-lived. “The studio wasn’t happy with the direction of the film. They wanted to change some things,” he explained. The unexpected turn of events saw the studio deciding to consolidate characters, a move that directly impacted Rollins’ potential role.

Repurposing and a Second Chance

Instead of outright cutting him, the studio offered Rollins a chance to audition for a different role. “They didn’t just say, ‘Hey, you’re out.’ They actually they called me and they said, ‘Hey, we’re repurposing this the beginning of this film. Um, you’re like I was in like kind of a group of roles like we were a team. We’re repurposing that into one person.'” This opened the door for him to read for the part, hoping to impress the filmmakers.

Despite his efforts, the role ultimately went to a prominent actor in the television world. “I saw Jean Carlo Espazito, Gus Fring from Breaking Bad, get cast in and I’m like, oh well, I think they had their heart set. I’m not competing with that guy anyway. That’s an elite actor,” Rollins admitted, acknowledging the caliber of his competition.

The final verdict came swiftly. “Then they called me back and we’re like, nah, you know, we’re going to go in a different direction,” he stated. While disappointed, Rollins appreciated the transparency. “At least I got a heads up. I wasn’t like waiting for that invite to the premiere and then got sad when I didn’t get one. No, I I I knew it was up.”

Rollins’ Disdain for the Hollywood Process

Beyond the specifics of the Captain America role, Rollins expressed a broader reluctance towards pursuing a career in Hollywood. When asked if he was interested in doing movies, his response was unequivocally negative, citing a previous, unpleasant experience.

“No, man. I I uh I only took the I did a WWE movie back in 2016,” he recalled. “I tore my ACL in November of 15. WWE Films, they had a studio at the time. They wanted me to come in and do a movie during my off time, which I did. Hated every second of it. I hated it. I did not want to do another one.”

This past experience heavily influenced his decision-making. “Which is why I didn’t take another role until Nate called me and said, ‘Hey, would you like to do this thing in Captain America?’ And I’m like, ‘I got to do that, right? You know, Captain America, it’s Captain America. It’s Marvel. I got to do that.'”

The Drudgery of Filming

Rollins elaborated on the aspects of filmmaking that he finds so unappealing. “But that’s I just don’t like it. I don’t like the process of it, you know?” he confessed. “It’s a lot of sitting and waiting. It’s a lot of sitting and waiting. You’re waiting for months for any sort of feedback. You don’t even know if you’re doing a good job. You’re doing the same thing over and over and over. I did not I was not for me.”

Despite his strong reservations, Rollins left the door slightly ajar for future opportunities, albeit with significant caveats. “Again, if the right prospect came along, I would consider it. But no, I got I got my uh my toes dipped in some other pools right now. So,” he concluded, hinting at other ventures taking precedence.

This revelation adds another layer to the multifaceted career of Seth Rollins, a performer who seems most at home under the bright lights of the wrestling arena, leaving the world of Hollywood largely behind.
