Rep. Subramaniam: Trump Misunderstands Iran, Needs Oversight on Epstein Files
Congressman Suha Subramaniam criticized President Trump's Iran strategy, stating he "completely misunderstood" the regime and its culture. Subramaniam also called for former Attorney General Pam Bondi to testify under oath regarding the Epstein files, suggesting she may be covering up for the President.
US Airman Rescued, But Iran Strategy Questioned
A U.S. airman, rescued from Iran in a risky night-time operation, is reportedly in Kuwait receiving treatment for injuries. President Trump stated the airman was seriously wounded but would recover. The rescue comes as the President claims the U.S. is in deep negotiations with Iran, with a potential deal nearing completion by Tuesday. However, members of Congress, including Representative Suha Subramaniam, state they have not been kept informed about these negotiations.
Congressman Criticizes Trump’s Iran Approach
Virginia Congressman Suha Subramaniam, a member of the Ethics Committee and ranking member of the Oversight Subcommittee on Foreign Affairs, expressed strong doubts about President Trump’s strategy regarding Iran. “The President from the very beginning has completely misunderstood this Iranian regime and Iranian culture, generally,” Subramaniam stated. He argued that understanding the enemy is crucial before engaging in conflict, a step he believes Trump has failed to take.
The Congressman also criticized the President’s public threats and timelines, calling the language “deeply unbecoming of a president.” Subramaniam believes these threats do not deter Iran. Instead, he suggested they could embolden the regime to continue blocking the Strait of Hormuz. He further explained that bombing Iran’s infrastructure would not weaken the regime, as its primary concern is maintaining power, not the welfare of its people. Such actions, he warned, could even generate sympathy for the regime by making life harder for ordinary Iranians.
“Making these threats doesn’t really deter them in any sort of way. In fact, it emboldens them to continue to block the Strait of Hormuz.”
Concerns Over Epstein Files and Pam Bondi’s Ouster
The discussion also shifted to domestic matters, specifically the firing of former Attorney General Pam Bondi just weeks before her scheduled deposition regarding the Jeffrey Epstein files. Subramaniam agreed with calls for Bondi to testify, drawing a parallel to efforts to hold Hillary Clinton accountable. “When he says chase, he means they actually tried to hold Hillary Clinton in criminal contempt of Congress and have her put behind bars because she didn’t show up,” Subramaniam said, explaining the sentiment behind calls for Bondi’s appearance.
Subramaniam asserted that Bondi has been breaking the law since the beginning and continues to withhold information about the Epstein files. He believes that if she fails to appear and provide testimony, she should face criminal contempt charges, just like anyone else. He noted that even Chairman James Comer had previously expressed openness to such action.
Demand for Transparency in Epstein Investigation
Subramaniam expressed his desire for Bondi to provide a full account under oath, emphasizing the need for transparency. He suspects that the delay in releasing the files is due to pressure from the President and his associates. “I want her to tell us over six hours or whatever, however long it takes, exactly what happened, and why she hasn’t released the rest of the files? Because I have a feeling it’s because of the President and the President’s orders, and she is trying to basically cover up for the President and his friends,” he stated.
Interim Attorney General’s Role Questioned
The Congressman also raised concerns about Todd Blanche, the interim Attorney General, who was previously Trump’s personal attorney. Subramaniam pointed out Blanche’s involvement in representing Ghislaine Maxwell and his stance that the Epstein files should not be pursued further. “Todd Blanche knows his marching orders, and he knows how to deliver, which is why I think the president likes him,” Subramaniam commented. He added that Blanche has been involved in obstructing the investigation and breaking the law, and that Congress also has questions for him.
Looking Ahead
As the situation with Iran remains tense and the U.S. pursues potential negotiations, Congress will likely continue to demand greater transparency regarding diplomatic efforts. Simultaneously, the investigation into the Epstein files and the actions of former officials like Pam Bondi are expected to proceed, with Congress seeking accountability and full disclosure.
