OH NO! Cruz’s Errors, Flea Flicker Fails & More Blunders Dominate Sports Week
Sports are full of amazing moments, but sometimes, things go hilariously wrong. This week, the Pat McAfee Show highlighted some of the biggest “Oh No” moments across the sports world, from baseball blunders to hockey gaffes and even a soccer slip-up. These are the plays that make you cringe and laugh all at once.
Baseball’s Big Blunder
The “Oh No” train is rolling right into baseball, and it started with a bang. Outfielder Oneil Cruz found himself in a tough spot during a game. With the bases loaded in the first inning, a ball sailed over his head in the outfield. Cruz, who has played shortstop and center field before, seemed lost, leading to a runner scoring. It was a rough start for the Pirates.
But the “Oh No” for Cruz wasn’t over. Later in the game, he stepped up to the plate with two strikes. What happened next was a trifecta of trouble: he struck out, and in a moment of frustration, he swung wildly, nearly taking out the catcher with his bat. It was a tough sequence for Cruz, and the commentators summed it up perfectly: “Can’t get worse.”
A Catcher’s Nightmare
The Tampa Bay Rays also had an “Oh No” moment, and it involved their catcher, Nick Forez. During a game, a pitch came in from pitcher Jalen Beeks. The catcher was ready, but the ball wasn’t quite where he expected. The replay showed the pitch was a ball, and it sailed right into Forez’s groin. It was a painful moment that had everyone wincing and thinking, “Oh no.”
Hockey’s Quick Goal
Hockey wasn’t immune to the “Oh No” parade. The Chicago Blackhawks faced a quick setback early in a game against the Philadelphia Flyers. Just 48 seconds into the first period, Blackhawks goalie Spencer Knight made a move, but it resulted in a turnover. Alex Bump of the Flyers wasted no time, capitalizing on the mistake for an easy goal. It was a tough way to start for Knight and the Blackhawks.
Soccer’s Missed Opportunity
Even the international soccer stage saw an “Oh No.” In a friendly match between Croatia and Colombia, with the score tied at 1-1, a Croatian player had a golden opportunity. Receiving a nice pass, he was in perfect position to score. However, in a moment of what looked like a selfless but ultimately misguided play, he passed the ball instead of shooting. The moment was so surprising, the commentators exclaimed, “Are you kidding me?” Croatia did go on to win 2-1, but that missed chance was a definite “Oh No” moment.
College Hoops and Standings Woes
The “Oh No” theme extended to college basketball, but this time, it wasn’t on the court. It was in the stands. A fan, identified as “Big Lair,” was seen in the crowd after his team, Florida, lost. He then declared he still had tickets and would root for Nebraska to beat Iowa. The next night, when Big Lair showed up in his Nebraska jersey, his former team, Florida, lost again. It was a double “Oh No” for Big Lair, caught between allegiances and bad luck.
Dan Orlovsky’s Twitter Troubles
The “Oh No” segment wouldn’t be complete without a nod to some social media blunders. Analyst Dan Orlovsky found himself on the receiving end of some lighthearted teasing. A tweet questioned what major golf tournaments Scotty Scheffler had won, and another asked about the wars Julius Caesar fought. These playful jabs, brought up by “Foxy,” added a humorous twist to the week’s “Oh No” recap, even if Orlovsky might have preferred they weren’t mentioned.
The hosts stressed that these “Oh No” moments happen to everyone in sports. It’s part of the game when athletes put themselves out there under the spotlight. In today’s world, with so much attention on social media, these slips can become viral. But as they say, it’s not about making fun, it’s about recognizing that we all have our “Oh No” moments.
