Jones Back! Colts Lock Up QB for 2 Years, Up to $100M

Indianapolis, IN – The whispers have turned into a roar. In a move that electrifies the fanbase and solidifies their commitment to a promising future, the Indianapolis Colts have signed quarterback Daniel Jones to a two-year extension, with potential earnings reaching up to $100 million. This deal comes as a significant vote of confidence for Jones, who was sidelined by a devastating Achilles injury after leading the Colts to an impressive 8-2 record and the top spot in the NFL standings before his season-ending setback.

The contract news broke on The Pat McAfee Show, where host Pat McAfee expressed immense enthusiasm for Jones’s return. “This dude or nothing? Give him a hundred million if you have to. WELL, TURNS OUT THAT MIGHT HAPPEN,” McAfee declared, highlighting the overwhelming sentiment from the show’s crew that Jones was the unquestioned choice to lead the team forward.

A Resilient Return

Jones himself appeared on the show, expressing his elation to be back in Indianapolis. “Yeah, I’m fired up. Fired up to be back and and definitely uh grateful for uh for the opportunity to be back and and here with the Colts,” he stated. The quarterback acknowledged the challenging road back from not one, but two leg injuries, including a torn Achilles. “The uh the left leg’s good. That’s all healed. Working on this Achilles making good progress with the rehab and um it’s all good. I’m fired up.”

Despite the significant injury, the Colts’ commitment to Jones never wavered. “It was Colts or nothing for you the entire time,” McAfee told Jones. “You were maybe thinking you were going elsewhere… When we thought you were potentially leaving and then we put the transition tag on you. Celebrate. And then we’re told that doesn’t mean that we’re kind of bummed out. You coming back is a huge deal.” Jones confirmed his desire to remain with the team, stating, “I, you know, I I uh I wanted to be back and and uh glad we got it figured out… I always wanted to be here and and, you know, had faith it would it would work out.”

Offensive Firepower Restored

The significance of Jones’s return is amplified by his performance before the injury. Statistics shared on the show revealed the Colts boasted the number one scoring offense in the NFL at the time of his injury, averaging 29.8 points per game. Jones was slinging the ball effectively, averaging an impressive 11.5 yards per attempt, with a staggering 20.4 yards per completion when targeting wide receiver Alec Pierce. This explosive potential was a hallmark of the Colts’ offense, with running back Jonathan Taylor also contributing significantly, creating “one of the most explosive tandems in the league history.”

The Colts have also prioritized keeping their offensive weapons together, successfully re-signing Alec Pierce, who was considered the top free-agent wide receiver on the market. “Alec is as dynamic as they come down the field making big plays. You’ve seen that for, uh, you know, four or five years, especially last year, too. So, uh, I’m fired up,” Jones commented on the reunion.

Setting Sights on the Division Crown

With Jones back under center and key offensive pieces retained, the focus shifts to reclaiming the AFC South title. “There’s a high sense of urgency in the building, uh, amongst everybody,” Jones admitted. “I think we realize, um, you know, last year we were things were good. we were rolling and we didn’t finish how we how we uh, you know, could have and and should have. But um I think there’s, you know, so there’s a level of confidence I think in what we can be and what we can what we can do. But there’s a high sense of urgency to to do that and make sure we we get back to where we were and then sustain that through the through the course of the season.”

The Road to Recovery

Jones is targeting a Week 1 return to the field, a goal he feels is achievable. “My goal is to be back by week one and and be ready to go. I think that’s uh that’s what we’re working towards and and uh and should be should be able to accomplish.” He has drawn inspiration and information from other athletes who have overcome similar injuries, including Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton, who shares the same surgeon. “Yeah, I talked to Tyrese a little bit uh early on. We actually have the same surgeon,” Jones confirmed. “So we’re uh, yeah, it was good to kind of hear his thoughts on just the initial stages of the process and the rehab.” He also mentioned conversations with quarterbacks Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins, who have both experienced Achilles tears.

The Colts’ commitment and the quarterback’s determination signal a strong belief in their potential for the upcoming season. With their starting quarterback healthy and ready to lead, the Super Bowl aspirations for Indianapolis appear to be back on the table.
