Javon Evans Admits Nerves Ahead of Elimination Chamber Showdown
The WWE universe is buzzing with anticipation for the upcoming Elimination Chamber event, set to stream live on the ESPN app this Saturday. Among the elite competitors vying for a shot at championship glory is the electrifying Javon Evans. Fresh off a dynamic performance on Monday Night Raw, where he battled Kofi Kingston with rapper Offset in his corner, Evans is speaking out about the immense pressure and his own admitted nerves heading into the high-stakes match.
A Glimpse of Brilliance and Resilience
During his bout on Raw, Evans showcased both his incredible athleticism and his fighting spirit. Despite appearing to injure his knee during a daring moonsault attempt, the young superstar rallied, ultimately defeating Kingston with his signature OG cutter. This display of resilience only fueled the excitement surrounding his inclusion in the Elimination Chamber match.
“Javon Evans. Uh, without a doubt, because Javon Evans is uh our youngest guy I think competing in the Elimination Chamber and if you haven’t seen what Javon Evans can do yet, it’s truly amazing. He’s changing the game the same way AJ Styles changed the game years ago,” commented Cody Rhodes on ESPN’s Get Up, highlighting Evans’ unique impact on the industry.
Facing the Pressure: A Young Star’s Perspective
Speaking directly on SportsCenter, Javon Evans addressed the high praise from Cody Rhodes and the weight of expectations that come with his rapid ascent. At just 21 years old, Evans finds himself in a position many seasoned veterans only dream of, including being handpicked by John Cena for his final wrestling appearance. The young phenom acknowledged the significant pressure but remains focused on his ambitious goal.
“Honestly, I don’t know. I’m gonna be real. It’s a lot of pressure. You know what I mean? Uh, it’s a lot of things to think about. But I always have like a positive mindset, you know. One of my goals is to be the best ever to do it in WWE history,” Evans stated. He further elaborated on his drive, “And everything that I got go through, all the chips on my shoulders, I feel like there’s a reason why they’re on my shoulders, you feel me? So, uh, yeah. I don’t know. It’s just great, you know? I’m just blessed to be in the position I’m in right now.”
The Source of Unrivaled Energy
When asked about his seemingly boundless energy, Evans attributed it to his passion for his dream job. “I think it’s just me being happy. You know what I mean? I’m working my dream job, you know what I mean? Nothing’s really bothering me right now,” he explained. However, he candidly admitted, “Um, I am a little nervous because, you know, Saturday, Elimination Chamber, Road to WrestleMania, but uh, I’m just blessed to be here and that’s really just keeping me grinding for real.”
Innovation in the Ring: The OG Cutter Phenomenon
Evans’ innovative offense, particularly his viral OG cutter, has become a talking point. He described his creative process: “I mean, really, I just be sitting in the ring, you know, and just thinking, you know what I mean? Just uh, what’s something that I can do that nobody has seen before or even if somebody has done a move that I’m trying to work on like how can I make that different? I feel like the height that I get on all my moves kind of make me stand up.” His unique style has earned him the moniker “bouncy,” a description he embraces with a smile.
Elimination Chamber Targets: A Future Champion’s Ambition
Looking ahead to the Elimination Chamber, Evans expressed his eagerness to test his skills against all participants. When pressed to name one opponent he’s particularly keen to hit with the OG cutter, he considered his past encounters. “I already hit Trick with a cutter before. I hit OG Randy Orton with a cutter. You know what I mean? I’ve never hit Cody Rhodes with a cutter. Uh oh, you feel me? So, I might hit Cody with one. I’ve never been in the ring with LA Knight, so I got to hit him with one, too. You feel me? So, let’s see what happens,” he revealed, underscoring his fearless approach.
Adjusting to the Main Stage
Having recently joined the WWE main roster, Evans identified the biggest adjustment as wrestling in front of massive crowds. “Honestly, OG, probably just wrestling like in front of uh the amount of people I’ve been wrestling in front of, you know what I mean? Like I’ve been wrestling for eight years and uh I’ve never wrestled in front of thousands of people until I got here to WWE. So, it’s like the biggest thing that I’m really just adjusting to and learning what different crowds like, you know, especially in different areas of the world,” he explained.
Five-Year Forecast: A Championship Reign
Peering into his future, Evans shared a bold prediction for his career. “Five years. I think I see myself um maybe having like a couple small reigns and and honestly in five years I think I think I’mma be world heavyweight champion for sure,” he confidently declared, envisioning a future adorned with championship gold.
As the Elimination Chamber looms, Javon Evans stands on the precipice of a potentially career-defining moment. While nerves are a natural part of the equation, his talent, ambition, and unique in-ring style suggest he is more than ready to embrace the challenge and continue his meteoric rise in WWE.
