Democrats Criticize Closed-Door Meeting with AG Bondi on Epstein Probe

Democratic lawmakers are voicing strong criticism following a closed-door meeting with Attorney General Pam Bondi regarding the Jeffrey Epstein investigation. Members of the House Oversight Committee described the session as a “farce” and accused Bondi of obstructing justice and withholding crucial documents. The meeting, held without public access or a formal transcript, aimed to address concerns about the handling of evidence and potential connections to powerful figures.

Accusations of Obstruction and Evasion

Congresswoman Lee, speaking after the meeting, stated that Democrats have consistently pushed for transparency, accountability, and justice in the Epstein case. “What we witnessed today was absolutely a farce,” Lee said. She accused Bondi of “obstructing justice” and “purging herself multiple times,” alleging that critical documents needed for the investigation are being withheld. The Democrats believe the closed-door session was an attempt to “push this under the rug” and avoid accountability.

During the session, lawmakers focused on Bondi’s compliance with a lawful subpoena for a deposition. When asked if Bondi would commit to appearing for a deposition, she reportedly stated she could not commit to appearing. Congressman Robert Garcia questioned Chairman Comer about compelling Bondi’s attendance and initiating contempt hearings if she failed to comply. Garcia stated that Chairman Comer responded by calling his questions “bitching,” an exchange he believes would not have occurred in a public setting.

Questioning Bondi’s Credibility and Past Actions

Lawmakers expressed skepticism about Bondi’s willingness to cooperate, citing her past statements and actions. Congressman Mike show detailed a timeline of what he called “lies from the very beginning.” He pointed to Bondi’s initial claim on February 21, 2025, that the Epstein client list was on her desk, a statement later revealed to be untrue. Further inconsistencies arose when Bondi stated on July 25, 2025, that no further disclosure was needed on Epstein files, despite the existence of millions of documents.

The Democrats also highlighted that even after pressure and an act of Congress, documents referencing President Trump were allegedly withheld. “She has repeatedly lied to us and so has Todd Blanch,” show stated, referring to Bondi’s counsel. “And now they want to get away with coming in here not under oath so that they can lie some more without any consequences.” The lawmakers emphasized their commitment to finding the truth and achieving justice for the victims.

Concerns Over Evidence and Witness Protection

The discussion also touched upon the scale of the abuse and the difficulty in bringing perpetrators to justice. “1,200 women are assaulted over a 20-year period and they can’t make a case. They can’t make a case for for bringing anyone to justice,” one lawmaker lamented. There were also concerns raised about the handling of key witnesses. Specifically, the relocation of a “star witness” by Todd Blanch from a maximum-security prison to a more comfortable setting was questioned, with fears that this arrangement could hinder cooperation.

Evidence suggesting a pattern of abuse, including young women being transported from Mar-a-Lago to Epstein’s island, was mentioned as being “obstructed.” Lawmakers believe the course of justice is being hindered by those in power, including “the president and by by his his attorney general and his personal attorney.”

Calls for Accountability and Future Actions

Congressman Frost emphasized that the purpose of the meeting was for Bondi to evade sitting before the committee under oath. “We asked her multiple times, ‘Are you going to come and speak with us under oath?’ She would not say yes,” Frost explained. He added, “We want her under oath because we do not trust her. Why don’t we trust her? Because she’s a liar.” He cited instances of Bondi allegedly spying on members of Congress and withholding documents related to Donald Trump.

The Democrats stressed that they do not trust Bondi due to what they perceive as her involvement in a cover-up. They drew a contrast with Republican reactions during the previous administration, where they would not have accepted similar lack of transparency from officials like Merrick Garland. The lawmakers characterized the meeting not as a briefing but as a “fake deposition” conducted without transcription or public viewing, allowing for potential untruths without consequence.

Looking Ahead: The Fight for Justice Continues

Despite the frustrations expressed, the Democrats vowed to continue their pursuit of accountability. “We look forward to her on the record deposition with our committee in response to our lawful subpoena,” a lawmaker stated. The immediate focus remains on compelling Bondi to appear for her deposition. Actions such as contempt hearings are being considered if she continues to evade the subpoena. The fight for transparency and justice for the survivors and the public remains the central objective.
