Dem Rep. Calls Trump’s Iran Threats ‘Apocalyptic’
Democratic Congresswoman Yasemin Anzari has strongly condemned President Trump's "apocalyptic" threats against Iran, warning of potential genocide and nuclear war. She is calling for the 25th Amendment to be invoked and is introducing articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. Anzari fears the President's rhetoric could strengthen the Iranian regime and harm its people.
Dem Congresswoman Slams Trump’s ‘Apocalyptic’ Iran Threats
Democratic Congresswoman Yasemin Anzari of Arizona has voiced grave concerns over President Trump’s escalating rhetoric regarding Iran, describing his threats as “apocalyptic” and a “nightmare scenario.” Anzari, an Iranian American and member of the House Oversight Committee, expressed shock and dismay at Trump’s language, which she believes normalizes threats of genocide and war crimes, potentially including the use of nuclear weapons.
‘Sick to My Stomach’ Over Rhetoric
Speaking on the urgent situation, Anzari stated she has been “sick to my stomach for days” due to the daily escalation of the President’s language. “This language has been escalating every 24 hours,” she explained. “I think Donald Trump is trying to normalize language that is essentially, you know, threatening genocide, threatening war crimes, of course, threatening potential use of nuclear weapons.”
The Congresswoman questioned how officials, including some Republicans and even some Democrats, are allowing such rhetoric to continue unchecked. “How is nobody trying to restrain this madman who is trying to get all of us killed?” Anzari asked, emphasizing that mechanisms to restrain the President exist but are not being used.
‘Nightmare Scenario’ for 90 Million
As an Iranian American, Anzari finds the threats against a population of 90 million people particularly devastating. She stressed that Trump should be taken at his word, noting that he has followed through on many of his most extreme pledges. “This is a massive five alarm fire moment and a historic moment in our country’s history,” she declared.
Calls for 25th Amendment and Impeachment
Anzari has previously called for the 25th Amendment to be invoked against President Trump following his public statements about bombing civilian infrastructure. However, she acknowledges the unlikelihood of Congress taking up the 25th Amendment.
She expressed disappointment that more Republicans have not spoken out, noting that some non-elected figures, like Marjorie Taylor Greene and Tucker Carlson, have been more vocal about the need for action. Anzari specifically questioned why Vice President J.D. Vance, who campaigned on ending “forever wars,” is not working to have the Cabinet invoke the 25th Amendment.
“He is mentally deranged and threatening crimes of this magnitude, are going to get Americans killed,” Anzari stated. She urged constituents to contact Republican members of Congress and senators relentlessly, highlighting the extreme danger of potential nuclear war implied by Trump’s words.
Impeaching Defense Secretary Hegseth
Beyond calls for the 25th Amendment, Anzari is introducing articles of impeachment against Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth. She believes this action is warranted and a necessary response to the current crisis. “It is, quite frankly, just an absolute abdication of responsibility to just be tweeting or putting out statements about Donald Trump being deranged and moving on,” she said.
Anzari feels that simply criticizing the President is not enough. “This is unprecedented in our country’s history, that a person like Donald Trump, with his history, using this kind of rhetoric against a country, being so unrestrained and nobody stepping up to do anything,” she stated. As a freshman Congresswoman, she is committed to using every avenue possible to inform the public about the urgency of the situation.
Regime Strengthened by Threats
The Congresswoman also warned that Trump’s threats against civilian infrastructure, such as power plants and bridges, might inadvertently strengthen the Iranian regime. “All that Trump is doing by threatening civilian infrastructure or the bombing of power plants or bridges, or ending civilization. In his own words, that is only going to strengthen the regime in Iran,” Anzari explained.
She believes the regime will use these threats for propaganda, reinforcing the narrative they have sold to the Iranian people for 47 years. Anzari shared that people inside Iran have already started executing protesters, accusing them of being spies for the West. “We are literally handing a horrific, murderous regime more propaganda to harm Iranians,” she lamented.
Heartbreak for Iranian People
Anzari expressed deep sympathy for the Iranian people, who she feels are caught between potential U.S. and Israeli strikes and the repressive Islamic Republic regime. “It is beyond heartbreaking,” she concluded.
