Crosby Furious as Ravens Trade Falls Apart

The NFL world was buzzing Friday night when what should have been the biggest trade of the offseason went south faster than a speeding bullet. The Baltimore Ravens backed out of a deal for star pass rusher Maxx Crosby, citing medical concerns that popped up during his physical. This shocking turn of events left Crosby himself stunned and angry, and he didn’t hold back his feelings on his own podcast.

Crosby Speaks Out: ‘Livid, Confused’

Crosby described the chaotic experience of traveling to Baltimore, expecting a big move, only for the deal to fall apart. He said he barely saw the General Manager, Eric DeCosta, and felt a strange energy from the start. “I didn’t get to see the GM at all. I thought I was going to see him when I first got there,” Crosby shared. “I went back up and um I dapp him up and I can just tell like the energy was a little bit off.”

After a long flight and drive, Crosby felt he wasn’t being treated like the prized player the Ravens were giving up two first-round picks for. “I’m just in my head like I’m just this is a whirlwind like I’m so excited like fired up you know what I mean like this is new opportunity whatever and you could just tell the energy was off,” he explained. He received a call saying they were trying to figure things out, but just minutes later, he heard the devastating news: “They’re backing out.”

The Raiders star was left feeling betrayed. “I’m livid, confused, the whole nine, all in one,” Crosby admitted. But he quickly found his resolve. “Happens for a reason. I know exactly who I am. I’m healthy. I’m crushing my rehab. I’m doing what I’m doing. I wasn’t supposed to be in Baltimore. And that’s it. You know what I mean? I’m meant to be a Raider. It’s through my damn core,” he declared.

Analyst Reaction: ‘A Bad Look for Baltimore’

On NFL Live, former player and analyst Dan Orlovsky called the situation a “volcano that people across the league were waiting for to blow and it blew on Friday night.” He added that it’s “a bad look for Baltimore,” especially if Crosby’s side of the story is true.

Lewis Riddick, another analyst, emphasized the importance of first impressions in business. “It’s amazing how important first impressions are, isn’t it?” Riddick asked. He felt the Ravens didn’t treat Crosby like a player they truly desired. “When you’re bringing in a player who you really covet and you’ve given up a lot for, you treat him like a king,” Riddick stated, contrasting it with the reported ‘blank looks’ and delayed introductions Crosby experienced.

Riddick also connected with Crosby’s deep loyalty to the Raiders. “When the team was in Alama and we were playing in the Oakland Coliseum and guys like Lester Hayes and Mike Haynes… you know what it felt like to be an old school Raider. And it is a sense of pride that it’s hard to really put into words. And Max has all that,” he said. Riddick expressed sympathy for Crosby having to go through such an ordeal and hoped he would remain a Raider.

What’s Next for Crosby and the Raiders?

The failed trade leaves many questions for the Raiders. With the trade off, the team is still without the two first-round picks they expected to have. This impacts their plans for rebuilding and competing in the near future, especially after significant free agency spending.

Adam Schefter reported that the most likely outcome is for Crosby to stay in Las Vegas. “The overwhelming way that it looks like it’s trending and tracking right now is for Max Crosby to remain a Las Vegas Raider,” Schefter said. He noted that Crosby himself has expressed a desire to be a Raider for life. “As long as he wants to be there and other teams wouldn’t be willing to give up what Baltimore was in light of what happened here in the last week with the medicals, then clearly the overwhelming likely path here is for him to stay in Las Vegas,” Schefter added.

An interesting financial note: By not being traded to Baltimore and staying in Nevada, Crosby actually saved over $10 million on his contract due to no state taxes. “He should be thrilled that he’s back there right now because he just made millions by essentially not passing the physical,” Schefter pointed out, suggesting it worked out well for both Crosby and the Raiders, while the Ravens move on.

The Ravens, meanwhile, have moved forward by agreeing to a four-year deal with defensive end Trey Hendrickson, keeping him in Baltimore.
