Mojo Brookzz Leaves Dave Chappelle Off His Elite Comedy List

Who are the funniest people to ever grab a microphone? That’s a tough question, and comedian Mojo Brookzz recently tackled it on Club Shay Shay. He shared his personal top five comedians of all time, and a big name was missing: Dave Chappelle. Brookzz explained his choices, focusing on a specific style of comedy he loves.

Brookzz’s Top 5: A Mix of Legends

When asked for his top five comedians, Brookzz didn’t hesitate. He named Eddie Murphy, Bernie Mac, Kevin Hart, Mike Epps, and Richard Pryor. This list features a blend of pioneers and modern stars, all known for their unique takes on life and laughter. Brookzz clearly has a deep appreciation for these comedic giants.

“My Mount Rushmore of comedians of all time. I’ma say uh Eddie Murphy. I love everything that Eddie did. Um, I’mma go Eddie Murphy. I’mma go Bernie Mack.”

He later expanded his list to five, adding Kevin Hart, Mike Epps, and the legendary Richard Pryor. These comedians have all left a huge mark on the comedy world, influencing countless others. Brookzz also made sure to include Martin Lawrence, emphasizing his impact on television comedy.

Why No Chappelle?

The biggest surprise for many viewers was the absence of Dave Chappelle. Brookzz explained that while he loves Chappelle’s work, it doesn’t always fit what he’s looking for in a comedy show. He prefers comedy that delivers quick, hard laughs rather than jokes that make you think too deeply.

“Dave Chappelle’s style of comedy for me is not like it’s not Everybody got a a style that they like,” Brookzz said. “So you laughing but damn then you leave like damn they is out here playing with us man. We got so Dave how you you know Dave how you thinking and sometimes when I watch comedy bro I don’t want to think I just want to laugh.”

Brookzz compared Chappelle’s storytelling style, which often involves deeper messages, to comedians like Bernie Mac, whose jokes hit hard and fast. He enjoys comedy that feels like a punch. This preference for immediate, energetic humor is key to understanding his list.

The Impact of Bernie Mac

Bernie Mac holds a special place in Brookzz’s heart. He recalled how watching Bernie Mac’s stand-up as a kid in fifth grade inspired him to become a comedian. Mac’s raw energy and storytelling ability, especially his famous “I ain’t scared of you” bit, left a lasting impression.

“When I came to school and you know, we used to stand outside before we go into school and I had all the kids circled around me. I was doing Bernie Mack whole set,” Brookzz shared. “That right there singlehandedly was like because we used to, you know, my parents used to always have Def Comic Jam and Comic View on all the time.”

Top Comedians with TV Shows

The conversation also moved to the best comedians who had their own TV shows. Brookzz’s top picks here included Martin Lawrence, Jamie Foxx, Steve Harvey, Dave Chappelle, and Mo’Nique. He expressed his love for Martin, calling it the greatest TV sitcom and admitting he can’t help but watch it whenever it’s on.

“Every time if I’m flipping the channel and I see Martin on I got to watch it. Even if I seen the episode, I got to watch it.”

He also mentioned wanting to meet Jamie Foxx, highlighting his talent on and off screen. The enduring popularity of shows like “The Chappelle Show” and Mo’Nique’s series further cemented their places on his list. This section showed Brookzz’s appreciation for comedians who also excelled in creating memorable television moments.

A Nod to Comedy’s Past and Present

The discussion touched on classic shows like “Sanford and Son” and the pioneering work of comedians like Redd Foxx. Brookzz also praised Eddie Murphy’s ability to bring together other legends like Richard Pryor and Robin Harris in his films, showing a deep respect for the history of comedy. He highlighted how Murphy, like other greats such as Big Mama House and Professor Klump (Eddie Murphy’s character in The Nutty Professor), embraced different characters, even wearing dresses.

Brookzz believes that as long as a comedian is true to themselves and benefits from their choices, there’s nothing wrong with experimenting with different characters or styles. This inclusive view reflects a modern understanding of comedic performance and personal expression.
