Comedian Slams Dinklage Over Snow White Role Snub
Comedian Brad Williams is calling out Peter Dinklage for his comments on Disney's live-action Snow White, claiming it cost dwarf actors job opportunities. Williams also pointed to Dinklage's role in the controversial movie 'Tiptoes' as hypocritical. The conversation then shifted to Williams' own surprising journey to finding love on a dating app.
Comedian Brad Williams Calls Out Peter Dinklage Over Snow White Casting Controversy
Comedian Brad Williams is not holding back his feelings about the recent Disney live-action Snow White movie. He specifically called out actor Peter Dinklage, saying Dinklage’s comments about the original fairytale concept took work away from dwarf actors.
Williams Blasts Dinklage’s Stance
During an appearance on Club Shay Shay, Williams expressed his frustration. “Thanks, Dinklage. You took work away from me and my six-year-old dwarf daughter. You took money and food out of my six-year-old daughter’s mouth,” he said. Williams was referring to Dinklage’s past comments on a podcast where he questioned Disney’s plan to use dwarves in the film. Dinklage had stated, “You’re still making it at the end of the day, 180 degrees away from what it is. What makes sense to me is to stop setting up a fairytale like ‘You’re off to work we go,’ you know? Like, what are you doing?'”
Disney initially announced a plan to feature seven “magical beings” instead of dwarves. This change led to backlash. Later, they decided to revert to using dwarves, but with CGI. Williams found this idea offensive. “Can you imagine, Shannon, if they’re doing ’12 Years a Slave’ and all the slaves are CGI black people? How mad you would be?” he asked. Williams believes that Dinklage’s influence led to this situation, which negatively impacted opportunities for dwarf actors.
Hypocrisy Alleged in ‘Tiptoes’ Role
Williams also pointed out what he sees as hypocrisy in Dinklage’s career. He brought up the 2009 movie Tiptoes, which stars Matthew McConaughey and Kate Beckinsale. In that film, actor Gary Oldman played a dwarf character. Williams highlighted that Oldman was physically acting out the role, often on his knees, to portray the character’s height. “This is what they get to play Little People,” Williams stated. He added that Peter Dinklage himself was also in Tiptoes. Williams called it “the most offensive movie to little people ever made” and encouraged viewers to watch it on Amazon Prime to see Dinklage’s involvement.
Williams respects Dinklage’s work but questions his public stance. “I know for a fact, and this is something like Dinklage, he made this decision and I respect him for it. He didn’t want to take roles that were making fun,” Williams admitted. He noted that when Dinklage hosted Saturday Night Live, he specifically asked for no dwarf jokes to be told. However, Williams feels Dinklage’s past role in Tiptoes contradicts his current position on dwarf representation.
Williams’ Own Dating Journey
The conversation then shifted to Williams’ personal life, specifically how he met his wife. He revealed they met on a dating app. Williams described his humorous dating profile, which mentioned his height of 4’4″ and his occupation as a part-time comedian. He explained that he initially created the profile as part of a radio show bit called “Tinder or Grinder.” This game involved flipping a coin to decide whether he would go on a Tinder date or a Grinder date each night.
Williams admitted to going on one Grinder date with a man he called “Ginger Bear.” He clarified that he is not gay but participated as part of the radio bit. The next day, the coin landed on Tinder, and he matched with his future wife, a 5’7″ Taekwondo instructor. “And then I I match with a uh a uh 5 foot7 uh taekwondo instructor uh beautiful Chinese woman and we’ve been married 8 years and we got a six-year-old together,” he shared.
Unexpected Romance
He described their first date as a revelation. Within 15 minutes, Williams realized he was in trouble because his date was intelligent, beautiful, and quick-witted, matching his humor. “And then I sit down and literally within 15 minutes I’m like I’m in trouble… she’s firing right back at me and I’m like oh [expletive] okay I’m in trouble,” he recalled. When Williams later suggested they break up because he was moving back to Los Angeles after losing his radio job, his now-wife refused. “Nah,” she simply said, indicating she wasn’t ready to end things. Williams recognized then that their relationship was meant to last.
“I thought I was going to have to do long distance. And then I said I I said, ‘We’re going to have to break up.’ And she just said, ‘No, we’re not breaking up.'”
This unexpected connection, born from a radio prank, led to an eight-year marriage and a child. It highlights how sometimes the most unlikely situations can lead to the greatest happiness.
