Clinton Criticizes Trump’s Online Behavior

Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has sharply criticized former President Donald Trump’s recent social media activity, calling his posts “unhinged” and “disgraceful.” Speaking on a news program, Clinton expressed concern over Trump’s online rhetoric, particularly posts made around Easter Sunday. She questioned how these messages align with traditional holiday sentiments, citing examples like Trump’s posts that appeared to depict himself as Jesus.

Accountability for Leaders’ Words

Clinton emphasized the importance of holding leaders accountable for their words, not just their actions. “Words, especially from an American president, have real consequences,” she stated. She described Trump’s recent social media posts as “unhinged rants” that included threats of “civilizational genocide” and attacks on democratic values. Clinton argued that such behavior goes against the core principles of American democracy and the rule of law.

“When you look at the last week of unhinged rants coming from Trump’s social media account, it’s just disgraceful… It’s about what we should stand for that he positions himself against, using slogans like Western Civilization and admiring somebody like Putin who wants to destroy Western civilization.”

Clinton also noted Trump’s use of the term “Western civilization” while appearing to admire leaders like Vladimir Putin, whom she believes aims to undermine it. She believes these actions break established norms and damage the country’s standing.

Concerns Over Iran Nuclear Program and Diplomacy

The conversation also shifted to international affairs, specifically the ongoing situation with Iran’s nuclear program. Clinton recalled her experience as Secretary of State, initiating slow, deliberate negotiations with Iran to prevent them from developing nuclear weapons. She contrasted this with what she sees as the current administration’s ineffective approach.

“This is hard work. You don’t just show up in Geneva or Islamabad, talk for a bunch of hours and go away,” Clinton explained, describing the detailed diplomatic process required. She criticized the current team sent to negotiate, calling it a “joke” and suggesting they lack the necessary expertise. “I think our allies believe we’ve lost our mind because they wake up in the morning like we do and see the rants from the president of the United States, the figure of, you know, such authority, making no sense half the time,” Clinton said. This perception, she noted, leads allies to strengthen their own defenses and alliances, such as the EU and support for Ukraine against Russian aggression.

Warning of Reckless Behavior

Drawing on her teaching experience at Columbia University, Clinton discussed the concept of the “domain of loss,” where leaders may become more reckless when they feel they are losing. She fears this could apply to Trump, potentially leading him to order more aggressive military actions.

Clinton urged Congress, including Republicans, to fulfill their constitutional duty and rein in the president’s power before he causes “irreparable damage” to the country and its international standing. She warned against allowing him to continue acting as a “rogue player” on the global stage.

Critique of Netanyahu and Israeli Policy

The discussion also addressed the situation in Israel. While affirming her strong support for Israel, Clinton expressed strong opposition to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s leadership. She believes he has stayed in power too long and undermined Israel’s long-term security.

Clinton criticized the ongoing conflict and actions in Gaza and Lebanon, as well as settler violence in the West Bank. She argued that such actions alienate Palestinians and create future animosity, making lasting peace more difficult. She suggested that Israel should support the Lebanese government in disarming Hezbollah and work to create better conditions for peace.

“The West Bank is filled with people who want a better future for themselves and their families. Let’s help them with that. Let’s make it more likely that they could be, you know, allies instead of adversaries,” Clinton urged. She also called for accelerating efforts in Gaza to disarm Hamas. Ultimately, she stated, the Israeli people must decide their leadership, hoping they choose a path that prioritizes their country’s best interests and future security.
