Niall Horan, a familiar face at Augusta National and a close friend of golf superstar Rory McIlroy, recently shared some insights into what makes the Northern Irishman tick, especially when it comes to his preparation for major championships like The Masters.

Speaking at the iconic tournament, Horan, who is a regular guest on the broadcast, expressed his admiration for watching his friends compete at the highest level. While he often sees them in social settings, witnessing them perform at Augusta is a special experience. “It’s amazing to watch them watch them in action,” Horan said. “I see them in social settings all the time, so to watch them do their do their thing and do it well at the highest level here at Augusta. Horan Recalls McIlroy’s Masters Triumph

Horan vividly remembers the excitement of watching Rory McIlroy finally capture the Green Jacket. He admitted to leaving the night before McIlroy’s historic win, only to regret it hours later. “It was crazy,” he recalled. “I left the night before, sadly. Come on. I made a silly mistake and I got back to Los Angeles and he was hitting it out with the bunker on one and made double and I thought, well, I’m kind of half glad I left now and then four hours later I took that all back.”

He felt the immense pressure McIlroy had been under, given his past close calls at Augusta. “You know, I I could feel we all could feel the burden on him, you know, all the attempts that he made here, the the close calls over the years as we all know, but to see him get the job done in the fashion he did it,” Horan explained. Although he’s also good friends with Justin Rose, who finished second, Horan acknowledged the significance of McIlroy completing his career Grand Slam.

A Nervous Caddie Experience

The interview also touched on Horan’s own experience caddying for McIlroy during the Par 3 Contest. Far from being a relaxed affair, Horan found it surprisingly nerve-wracking. “It was very nerve-wracking actually there. I didn’t think, you know, I just thought it’d be just me carrying a bag, having a laugh with Rory, but it’s a lot of people out there,” he shared. “You know, on those days and it’s such the part three as we’ve seen again this year is such an amazing day. There’s nothing like it sport.”

He even admitted his own golf game faltered under the pressure, pulling a shot into the water. “I mean, you see there in the clip, I’m literally my hands were shaking. I pulled it into the water. It wasn’t It wasn’t my best golf. I’m not going to lie,” Horan confessed.

Friendship with Justin Rose

Horan also spoke about his friendship with Justin Rose, acknowledging the emotional toll it took to see him lose in a playoff at Augusta. “Watching his face and watching how he the emotions of that afternoon was uh was as a friend as a close friend it was tough to watch,” he said.

He highlighted Rose’s dedication to majors, noting his strong record at Augusta with multiple top 10 finishes and second-place showings. Horan praised Rose’s experience and calm demeanor on the course, calling him a “gent of the game.”

He believes golf fans might assume McIlroy simply shows up and performs due to his exceptional swing. “I think we genuinely I think a lot of golf fans out there would just go a he must just turn up and hit it because he’s just got the best swing of all time,” Horan added. “So, you know, he definitely is a lot more prepared than we probably make out.”

Horan also playfully mentioned that while McIlroy is a great golfer, his singing and dancing skills might not be as impressive. “He can’t sing. He can’t dance. He tries,” Horan joked, adding that both McIlroy and Rose have been known to attempt singing and dancing during social gatherings.
