Comedian Rallies Behind Jack Funny After Stage Bomb
Mojo Brookzz is sharing his thoughts on a tough moment for comedian Jack Funny. Funny recently had a rough set in front of a huge crowd of about 1,000 people. Brookzz knows how hard that can be because he’s been there too. He remembers one of his own bad nights on stage. His girlfriend was there, driving him home, and she asked if he was okay. Brookzz told her they had to keep fighting back. He felt that same encouragement was needed for Jack Funny.
This particular night was a homecoming show for Brookzz. He had been talking to Jack Funny, telling him he should try stand-up comedy. Brookzz knew Funny was doing great online, but he felt stand-up was the next step. “Bro, you need another you,” Brookzz explained. He thinks people don’t realize how much money is in stand-up comedy if you have fans who want to see you. “There’s some paper out there,” he said. Brookzz told Funny that people wanted to see him and he needed to find a way to grow.
Jack Funny said he wanted to try stand-up. To his credit, he was ready to give it a shot. However, Brookzz admits it was partly his fault. The night Funny bombed, there were 1,000 people watching. Brookzz knew Funny might not be ready for that kind of audience. “But he was like, ‘No, I’m ready. I’m ready,'” Brookzz recalled.
A Tough Night and a Helping Hand
Brookzz watched from the side as Funny went on stage. He doesn’t like seeing other comedians bomb. “It’s just something about it. It hurts you,” he said. So, Brookzz went back downstairs. He remembers Jack coming down later, and people were telling him, “Man, he bombed. They booing him.”
Brookzz went into his dressing room. He didn’t even know cameras were rolling. “I know the feeling though,” Brookzz shared. “I know what it’s like to go up and you don’t deliver and you sitting there like, damn. Like, you know, am I funny or not?” He told Funny that stepping into stand-up is new territory. “A lot of dudes wouldn’t even went out there. You did the hardest part,” Brookzz said.
Brookzz offered to help. “Let’s figure something out. Come to the room. We’re going to figure something out,” he told Funny. They went to the room, worked on some jokes, and “punched it up.” Funny went back out and had a better set. Brookzz believes in helping others win. “Your winning is not gonna stop my motion,” he stated. He explained that picking Funny up and telling him to go back out there was because he wanted to see him succeed.
From Stand-Up to Hollywood
Brookzz also talked about his career, including his work with Tyler Perry. He’s been on one Tyler Perry production and would love to do more. He sees stand-up comedy as a natural path for many performers, like Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence. Brookzz also wants to act more and would definitely work with Tyler Perry again.
He shared a story about working on the show “The Oval.” He hadn’t met Tyler Perry before getting the role. During a table read, Brookzz could hear Perry but couldn’t see him. In the first week, they had to rewrite a lot of the script. This happened because of actress Jo Marie Payton, who was also on the show. Tyler Perry shoots very fast because it costs too much money to take too long. They ended up rewriting parts of the script to give to Brookzz.
Brookzz left for a weekend to do some shows, as he was still performing while filming. When he came back, there was a scene where he sat on a statue and improvised the whole thing. This scene was originally meant for Jo Marie Payton. After they finished, Tyler Perry called Brookzz over. He asked how much he was getting paid and then said he would increase it. “He kept his word. I made some good money,” Brookzz said. He believes Perry is very professional and gives opportunities to people who look like them.
On-Screen Boundaries
When asked about what he won’t do on camera, Brookzz was clear. “I ain’t kissing no man.” He was also asked about sex scenes with women. “Oh, I do that,” he replied, but added that you have to be able to control yourself. He explained that you can’t be overly excited with cameras around. When asked if he could do a sex scene, Brookzz said yes, but it would depend on who the co-star was. He mentioned Zoe Saldana as someone who would make it interesting.
Brookzz also noted that there are people on set to ensure everyone is comfortable during intimate scenes. He believes it’s hard not to get aroused in such situations. The conversation touched on the idea of open-mouth kissing in scenes, referencing the movie “Monster’s Ball” with Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton. Brookzz humorously added, “Give me a sex scene. Call me Billy Bond.”
“Your winning is not gonna stop my motion. So when he was So me picking him up and telling him, ‘Hey man, go right back out there, go, you know, go get it again.’ That’s because I want to see you win.”
