Reality star Jen Shah has broken her silence for the first time since her release from federal prison in December. In an exclusive interview with People magazine, Shah described her initial shock upon arriving at the correctional facility. “When I walked in there, it took my breath away,” Shah told People. “And I just thought, this cannot be where I’m gonna be.” The interview marks her first public statement since completing her nearly three-year sentence.

Apology and Restitution

Shah, formerly of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud. This charge stemmed from a multi-million dollar telemarketing fraud scheme that targeted elderly individuals. Addressing those who lost money due to her actions, Shah offered a direct apology. “What I would say to somebody that lost money because of this is that I’m sorry for any part that I had,” she stated. She emphasized that a key part of her responsibility now is to ensure victims are repaid through restitution. “My mission is part of like, my consequences and my responsibilities to make sure that people are paid back through the restitution,” Shah explained. She also expressed hope that others involved in the scheme would do the same.

Life Inside Federal Prison Camp

The former reality star spent her time at the Federal Prison Camp in Bryan, Texas. This is a minimum-security facility. Shah revealed she took charge of organizing workout classes during her incarceration. “I put together all the workout classes,” she said. She also shared details about friendships she formed while inside. Notably, she became good friends with disgraced Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, who is also serving time at the same facility for wire fraud. “Lizzie and I are our good friends,” Shah commented.

Allegations of Special Treatment

Shah also made claims about the treatment of Ghislaine Maxwell, the convicted sex offender who was also housed at the Bryan facility. Shah alleged that Maxwell received preferential treatment, which she described as concerning. According to Shah, Maxwell was given privileges not afforded to other inmates. These included private workout sessions, special meals, and bottled water. “She was treated very well and was afforded things in prison that nobody else was afforded,” Shah told People. Maxwell’s attorney did not immediately respond to requests for comment. The Bureau of Prisons disputed Shah’s allegations. A spokesperson stated that staff are required to treat all inmates equitably. This treatment must be in accordance with law, policy, and institutional safety protocols.

However, her return to reality television seems unlikely. Andy Cohen, the executive producer of “The Real Housewives” franchise, confirmed that Shah will not be returning to the show. “She’s not coming back to the Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” Cohen stated. “I don’t know that I could see Bravo working with her again.” NBC News reached out to Bravo and Shah’s team for comment but had not received a response at the time of reporting.
