Bret Michaels & Wiz Khalifa Ready to Ignite Pittsburgh NFL Draft with Free Concert

Pittsburgh is gearing up for a massive NFL Draft event, and local legend Bret Michaels is set to headline a free concert alongside hip-hop star Wiz Khalifa. The Poison frontman, a proud “Yinzer,” expressed his excitement about performing in his hometown for what he calls the “Super Bowl” of events.

A Hometown Hero’s Dream Gig

Michaels, who has been a fan of the draft for years, sees this as a monumental opportunity. “This will be my sixth year on the draft, and it’s become like the Super Bowl,” he stated. He emphasized the importance of treating the performance with the same energy as a Super Bowl halftime show. “The audience is enormous. There will be more people there in Pittsburgh live watching you than are actually in the stadium when the Super Bowl game is being played.” Michaels is ready to give it his all, considering it the biggest gig of his career.

“I’m a 100% guy. When I got the call about doing this, it was like a bucket list dream come true. You don’t ask me to come up and perform at this on Friday night; I said, I’m gonna take gaff tape and gaff tape myself to the podium.”

The “Black and Yellow” Collaboration

The collaboration between Michaels and Wiz Khalifa has a unique origin story. The two artists met at a charity event hosted by Jay Glazer, where they bonded over music. “We were on tour, I said, ‘Let’s just grab the band.’ Went over and played acoustically for a lot of people. Whiz and I started just singing songs, doing stuff together,” Michaels explained. This impromptu jam session sparked the idea for their draft performance.

Their setlist is being carefully crafted to deliver maximum impact. The duo plans to perform a mix of their own hits before coming together for a grand finale. “We’re going to do a couple of ours, couple of theirs, and then come together and do one big grand finale or throw it into the middle of the two and just mash it up. But nothing but hits from both of them,” Michaels detailed. They’ve even dubbed their show “Black and Yellow: Nothing But a Good Time, Nothing But a Good Draft: All Killer Hits, No Filler.”

Steelers Nation’s Hopes High for Mike Tomlin

Beyond the music, Michaels also shared his thoughts on the Pittsburgh Steelers and their head coach, Mike Tomlin. As a passionate football fan and a devoted “Yinzer,” Michaels is optimistic about the team’s future under Tomlin. “I think Mike is going to do an amazing job,” he said, referencing Tomlin’s impressive streak of winning seasons. Michaels believes the team’s success comes down to “willpower,” a trait he feels is synonymous with Pittsburgh.

He drew parallels to legendary Steelers moments, like Jack Lambert’s intensity, as examples of the city’s fighting spirit. “You got to have what Pittsburgh has. It’s willpower. We got to have the willpower to just push it like Bettis used to do. To will it to win.” Michaels is confident that this mindset will drive the Steelers forward.

A Free Spectacle for the City

The NFL Draft in Pittsburgh is already a major event, but the addition of a free concert by two major artists adds an extra layer of excitement. “The draft is free. That’s bananas. We’re going to have so much fun in there,” Michaels enthused. The performance promises to be a highlight for fans attending the draft and those watching from home, celebrating Pittsburgh’s unique spirit and passion for both music and football.
