Porsche Cayenne EV Crushes Rivals in Speed Showdown

The new electric Porsche Cayenne isn’t just powerful; it’s a speed demon. In a recent showdown against its hybrid and gasoline siblings, the all-electric Cayenne Turbo Electric proved itself the king of acceleration, leaving its stablemates in the dust. Actor Orlando Bloom also joined the fun, adding a celebrity challenge to the mix.

Cayenne Turbo E Hybrid: The Powerful Plug-In

Kicking things off was the Porsche Cayenne Turbo E Hybrid. This beast combines a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine with a hefty electric motor. Together, they produce a massive 729 horsepower and 949 Nm of torque. Despite weighing over 2.6 tons, Porsche engineers have clearly found a way to make it fly.

The interior is luxurious, offering various driving modes like Off-road, E-Power, Hybrid, Sport, and Sport Plus. For our tests, Sport Plus was the mode of choice. The car also features a large 25 kWh battery pack tucked beneath the boot floor.

Cayenne Turbo GT: The Track-Focused SUV

Next up was the Cayenne Turbo GT. This version feels more like a track car that happens to have room for dogs. It boasts a 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 engine, delivering 650 horsepower and 850 Nm of torque. Porsche engineers managed to shave off 300 kg compared to the hybrid, thanks to its purely gasoline powertrain and lighter components.

Inside, the Turbo GT screams performance with sport seats, carbon fiber trim, and an Alcantara steering wheel. It’s designed to feel ready for the race track.

Cayenne Turbo Electric: The Silent Rocket

The star of the show is the all-new Cayenne Turbo Electric. This EV packs an incredible punch, with launch control unleashing 1,139 horsepower and a staggering 1,500 Nm of torque. It’s the most powerful Cayenne ever made. While it’s the heaviest at nearly 2.7 tons, its electric motors deliver instant and brutal acceleration.

Under the hood, there’s no engine, just two electric motors and a usable front trunk (frunk). The interior is ultra-modern, featuring a stunning curved infotainment screen that’s easy to use thanks to a dedicated handrest. It also sports an Alcantara steering wheel, similar to the Turbo GT.

The Speed Challenge: Matt vs. Orlando

The challenge involved measuring 0-60 mph and quarter-mile times for each SUV, with both automotive journalist Matt Watson and actor Orlando Bloom taking turns. A coin toss determined who went first for each car, adding an element of chance.

Cayenne Turbo E Hybrid Results

In the hybrid, Orlando Bloom managed a 0-60 mph time of 3.88 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 12.59 seconds on his first attempt. After turning off stability control, he improved his 0-60 mph to 3.88 seconds but his quarter-mile remained 12.59 seconds. Matt Watson’s best run achieved a 0-60 mph of 3.88 seconds and a quarter-mile of 12.30 seconds. However, in the final comparison, Orlando’s initial run of 12.59 seconds was faster than Matt’s second attempt of 12.87 seconds. This left the hybrid with one win for each driver.

Cayenne Turbo GT Results

The Turbo GT proved quicker. Matt Watson’s first run hit 0-60 mph in 3.61 seconds and completed the quarter-mile in 12.17 seconds. His second attempt was slower at 12.87 seconds. Orlando Bloom’s best run achieved a 0-60 mph of 3.90 seconds and a quarter-mile of 12.36 seconds. Ultimately, Matt Watson’s initial 12.17-second quarter-mile secured the win for the Turbo GT in this segment.

Cayenne Turbo Electric Results

The electric Cayenne was the undisputed speed king. Matt Watson’s first run was astonishing, hitting 0-60 mph in just 2.59 seconds and a quarter-mile in an unbelievable 10.2 seconds. Orlando Bloom, driving second, managed a 0-60 mph of 2.62 seconds and a quarter-mile of 10.1 seconds. This meant Orlando narrowly won the quarter-mile battle in the electric Cayenne, despite Matt’s faster 0-60 mph. He also secured the overall win for the day.

Verdict: The Electric Future is Fast

The Porsche Cayenne Turbo Electric is a true performance marvel. It not only dominates its gasoline and hybrid siblings in straight-line acceleration but also sets a new benchmark for what an SUV can do. While the Turbo GT offers a thrilling gasoline-powered experience, the silent, brutal speed of the EV is simply on another level. For buyers seeking the ultimate blend of SUV practicality and mind-bending speed, the electric Cayenne is the clear choice. It proves that the future of high-performance SUVs is undeniably electric.
