US Strikes in Iran “Actually Working,” Envoy Tells News Outlet

Military strikes and economic pressure orchestrated by the Trump administration against Iran are proving effective and could pave the way for regime change, according to an advisor to Iran’s exiled crown prince. Justin Forsyth, who advises Reza Pahlavi, the son of Iran’s last shah, stated in a recent interview that the current strategy, though unpopular in some Western circles, is weakening the Iranian government and creating space for popular uprising.

Uprising and International Response

Forsyth pointed to widespread protests within Iran in early January, where millions took to the streets calling for the end of the current regime. He noted that while the world largely looked away, the United States and Israel took action, degrading the regime’s leadership and militias. “President Trump and Israel did act, and they’ve over the last few weeks degraded the regime,” Forsyth explained. “Not just killed a number of its leaders, but at a street level they’ve killed these militias.”

The current strategy, according to Forsyth, involves targeted strikes against the Revolutionary Guard and Basij militias, rather than the regular army. This approach aims to create an opportunity for the Iranian people to rise up again, supported by defections from within the security forces and the army itself. “We’re asking President Trump to do at this moment is to continue what he is doing. Um, it is working,” he asserted.

Reza Pahlavi’s Role and Vision

Reza Pahlavi has emerged as a unifying figure for a broad coalition of democratic forces within Iran and abroad. Forsyth emphasized that Pahlavi is not seeking to restore the monarchy but rather to lead a transitional government until free elections can be held. “He leads a movement. He has a coalition of all the democratic forces, not just people that are monarchists, but Republicans, left, right, the tribal leaders,” Forsyth said.

Pahlavi has advised people in Iran to wait for the right moment to protest, aligning with calls from President Trump and the Israeli government for restraint while the regime’s infrastructure is further degraded. “There’s been lots of messaging into Iran. Do not come out at the moment. We’re degrading the security infrastructure,” Forsyth stated. He believes that when the time is right, the Iranian people, with support from defecting security forces, will be able to overthrow the current government.

International Support and Regional Impact

Forsyth highlighted that Pahlavi is actively engaging with the U.S. administration, Israeli officials, and European governments. However, his primary strength lies in the widespread support he commands within Iran. “Tens and tens of millions of people support him,” Forsyth claimed. “The American and Israeli actions can go so far. They can help degrade the security forces, but in the end, the boots on the ground are the Iranian people and his powers they follow him.”

The advisor also addressed concerns about potential instability, comparing the situation to Iraq. He argued that Iran is fundamentally different, being a unified and nationalistic country with a population that is not inherently anti-Western. “They’re not asking for Israel or America to send boots on the ground. The Iranian people will be those boots on the ground, given half a chance,” Forsyth insisted.

Public Support for Strikes and Future Hopes

According to Forsyth, many Iranians support the military strikes, viewing them as a targeted effort against the regime rather than the general population or infrastructure. “In Iranian people really support that,” he said. “They also really support the U.S. and Israeli staying the course, giving them a chance at the right moment to be those boots on the ground to overthrow the regime.”

The hope is that a successful transition would lead to a secular democracy in Iran, ending its support for regional proxies like Hamas and Hezbollah. Forsyth noted that Iran’s involvement in fueling the war in Ukraine with drones also underscores the need for international attention and a change in the Iranian government. “This is a huge opportunity and it’s very important that we stay the course. We bring down this regime and we usher in a new opportunity,” he concluded.

A Call for Continued Pressure

The strategy advocated by Forsyth and Pahlavi relies on sustained pressure from the U.S. and Israel to weaken the regime’s hold, combined with the mobilization of the Iranian populace at a critical juncture. The goal is a homegrown revolution, supported by international diplomacy, that would usher in a new era of freedom and democracy for Iran. The coming weeks will be crucial in determining if this strategy continues to gain momentum and if the conditions for a popular uprising will be met.
