LA Golf Club Crowned 2026 TGL Champions in Dominant Fashion
The Los Angeles Golf Club (LAGC) are the 2026 TGL season 2 champions, lifting the SoFi Cup after a masterful performance against Jupiter Links GC. The victory capped off a season of impressive play, solidifying LAGC’s status as a powerhouse in the league.
Tiger Woods Earns Player of the Match Honors
In a fitting moment for the league’s return to competitive golf, Tiger Woods was named Player of the Match presented by Genesis. His presence and performance were instrumental throughout the season, culminating in this championship win for LAGC.
A Vision Realized: From Cocktail Napkin to Championship Trophy
Scott Vampel, hosting the trophy presentation, highlighted the journey of TGL. He spoke with Tomorrow Sports founder and CEO Mike McCarly about the league’s beginnings. “It started on a cocktail napkin, right?” McCarly mused. “And from that to this, it takes buy-in, it takes players embracing the vision, but it takes ownership that understands a vision before there’s anything to see.” McCarly credited Alexis O’Hanley, the first team owner, for his early belief. “Alexis is someone who can see the future quite well,” McCarly added. “When he called with a real belief in a vision and then ended up becoming the first team owner in TGL, it really helped set us on a nice path here.”
LAGC’s Resilience and Competitive Spirit Shines Through
Looking back at the season, McCarly expressed pride in the league’s growth. “We’ve seen amazing moments, double eagles, holes in one, magic, brilliant things that we’ll remember forever,” he said. He also pointed to LAGC’s determination. “Last season when this team lost in the semifinals, they went back to the locker room and were talking about what they would need to do differently this year to get back to this place,” McCarly explained. “And clearly they did it. So I think that competitive spirit that a lot of the teams we’ve seen kind of come out, they figured out how to play this version of the sport.”
Owner’s Pride: A Journey of Championship Dreams
Alexis O’Hanley, a key figure in TGL’s inception and LAGC’s owner, shared his elation. “It is an incredible feeling. I feel so lucky,” he stated. O’Hanley recalled Tiger Woods’ initial idea. “Tiger was the one who called me up and said, ‘Hey, I’ve got an idea for a new league that’s going to grow this game and revolutionize the sport.’ I you can’t say no to that pitch.” O’Hanley was grateful to be the first team owner. “This has been an amazing journey to be able to do it with our daughters in attendance with my wife who’s obviously the GOAT and then to do it against another GOAT in Tiger tonight is extra poetic,” he shared. “These guys just played lights out all damn year long and it’s been awesome to watch.”
“It’s been amazing being a fan. The guys played them just so good and we were just so proud of them and just so happy for everyone.” – Serena Williams
Rose Leads by Example, Teammates Follow
Justin Rose, the veteran presence on LAGC, downplayed individual leadership. “Listen, I think there’s no leader in a team, right? I mean, it’s a collective effort, obviously,” he said. “Everyone needs to lead by example and that’s the greatest thing about team golf.” Rose spoke about the motivation of playing for teammates. “You can stomach it when you let yourself down out there, which is never a nice feeling, but you can stomach it when you let other guys down. That’s something hard, you know, that’s harder to sleep with at night.” For Rose, it was about representing himself and the team well.
Overcoming Nerves for Championship Glory
Colin Morikawa, reflecting on the team’s performance, acknowledged the pressure. “Yeah, of course. And I think there’s so many things that we felt,” he said. Morikawa admitted his disappointment from the previous season’s semifinal loss. “I felt like I’d let the team down on that semifinal and I was the one that missed the defining putt that got us knocked out,” he revealed. “And it did hurt.” Despite a slow start this season, LAGC built momentum. “We built momentum throughout the year, but I just, I mean, Justin said it perfectly. You know, it’s great being part of a team. The team that we’ve had has been an amazing thing to be a part of for the last two years, and I feel like we’ve been building to this moment.” He praised the team’s preparation and support for each other.
Morikawa’s Clutch Performance Seals the Deal
Seth Raynor, who had a short missed putt early in the match, delivered crucial putts when it mattered most. He acknowledged the unique atmosphere of the finals. “It certainly did feel a little bit different,” Raynor stated. “Even in the pre-round warm-ups, I was hitting some really high ball speeds that I haven’t really hit all year.” He attributed his success to adrenaline and the competitive drive. “We all get up for this. We’re all competitors and to be in the playoffs and especially the finals so close to this trophy, you just want it so bad.” Raynor also mentioned the inspiration from Serena Williams and Tiger Woods being present. He dedicated his performance to his team and acknowledged those behind the scenes, including Colin Morikawa and Carl Smith.
A Tribute to Kobe Bryant’s Mentality
Raynor revealed he wore a Kobe Bryant jersey for the final, embodying the “Mamba Mentality.” “Yeah, he was my guy growing up, so just… the job wasn’t finished, but now it is,” he said, connecting his clutch play to the legendary basketball player’s mindset.
The Green’s Challenge and Trust in Teammates
Despite the challenging greens at the SoFi Center, Raynor felt he understood the lines and pace perfectly after his early miss. “Wow. It was diabolical, as I showed yesterday, but yeah, it was just the rub of the green and these guys had some great reads and again, their trust in me is what really made me feel so good over the ball and yeah, today it just went in.”
LAGC Hoists the SoFi Cup in Celebration
The TGL champions were presented with the magnificent SoFi Cup trophy. Mike McCarly and Alexis O’Hanley handed the cup over, noting how it changed from Sofi Blue to the colors of Los Angeles. O’Hanley expressed his joy, “It has been tremendous to watch you come together as a team and play as a team and now win as a team.” Confetti rained down as LAGC celebrated their hard-earned victory.
A Dominant Season Culminates in Championship
Matt Barry summarized LAGC’s season. “Yes, Scott. Just dominant from start to finish for LAGC as you see them on the stage. And a really fitting moment for LA.” He noted the team’s immense talent, with world-ranked players like Colin Morikawa, Sahith Theegala, Tommy Fleetwood, and Justin Rose. “I don’t think anyone is the least bit surprised that it’s LA. I think the surprise was last year when they got bounced early.” Barry acknowledged Jupiter Links’ strong performance but ultimately credited LAGC’s consistent excellence.
Lessons Learned and Unstoppable Force
Roberto Castro commented on the season’s evolution. “When I think about the arc of the season, you know, the players got more comfortable in the SoFi Center. We saw some great golf. Also, the teams really learned to play in season 2. They learned the strategy. They learned how to use the hammer and it made for some really great matches.” Castro felt Jupiter Links faltered by forgetting some of those lessons. “In the end, Jupiter forgot some of those lessons that they learned and it cost them. But honestly, I’m not sure any team could stop LA.” He praised specific aspects of LAGC’s game, including Raynor’s short game, Fleetwood’s iron play, and Justin Rose’s legendary status and relentless approach, calling him a big reason why they are champions.
