Trump Orders ICE Masks Off at Airports, Blames Democrats
Former President Donald Trump has ordered ICE agents at airports to remove their masks, blaming Democrats for airport struggles and border security issues. He also criticized Democrats over a funding bill and accused them of "weaponizing" the justice system.
Trump Directs ICE to Remove Masks at Airports Amidst Border Debate
Former President Donald Trump announced a new directive for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers at airports, ordering them to stop wearing masks. This move comes as Trump blames Democrats for the current struggles at airports, which he claims are due to a large influx of people entering the country. He stated that ICE has been put in charge and is working with TSA agents to improve the situation.
Mask Mandate Lifted at Airports Following Trump’s Request
Trump revealed that he personally suggested the mask removal for ICE agents in airports. While he expressed belief in the importance of masks generally, he disliked the appearance of masked agents as people disembarked from planes. “I didn’t like the look in the airport as you get off the plane,” Trump stated. He added that his request was agreed to, and the agents would no longer be required to wear masks in that specific setting.
National Guard May Be Deployed to Airports
In addition to the mask directive, Trump indicated that the National Guard could be called in to assist at airports if needed. “We will also bring out, if we don’t have enough, we will bring out the National Guard in, you know, where we need it, to help out at the airports,” he explained. He vowed that the current situation would not be allowed to continue.
Trump Accuses Democrats of Extortion Over Funding Bill
The former president strongly criticized Democrats, calling their actions “extortion.” He accused them of withholding already approved funding and seeking a $5 billion reduction in ICE funding to pass a deal they had previously agreed to. Trump characterized this as an attempt to renegotiate a deal for a “big beautiful deal,” which he described as the largest tax and regulation cut in history. He believes Democrats are trying to renegotiate for the benefit of a “criminal element.”
Concerns Over Border Security and “Criminal Element”
Trump linked the airport situation to broader concerns about national security and immigration. He claimed that President Biden has allowed “hundreds of thousands of killers” into the country and that they are being rapidly removed. He expressed worry that these individuals could pose a threat if their identities were not known. “We’re rapidly getting them out, by the way. But they would uh they would go after these people if they knew exactly who they were,” he said.
Criticism of Schumer and Calls for Voter ID
The former president also targeted Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, calling him “wacky” and a danger to the country. Trump accused Schumer of changing his stance on Israel and becoming a “Palestinian leader.” He suggested Schumer’s actions are driven by fear of losing his next election. Trump reiterated his demands for voter ID and proof of citizenship to be included in any funding legislation. He wants these measures combined into what he calls the “Save America Act,” believing it’s crucial for the nation’s security.
Accusations of “Weaponization” by Democrats
Trump accused Democrats and the current administration of “weaponizing” the justice system against him and his supporters. He cited his own indictments as examples of this alleged “weaponization.” “They weaponize everybody. You know, when we even look when Pam looks at somebody, oh, it’s weaponization,” he stated. He believes this tactic has failed, saying, “Fortunately, it didn’t work because here I am with you. So, it didn’t work out too well.”
Future Actions and Continued Concerns
Trump emphasized his commitment to preventing what he sees as a dangerous situation at the border and in the country. He insists that measures must be taken to address the flow of individuals entering the U.S., many of whom he described as “murderers.” His focus remains on securing the border and ensuring national safety, using strong language to criticize the current administration’s policies and political opponents.
