Iran Conflict: Defections to ‘Scale Up,’ Advisor Claims

New reports suggest a potential increase in defections from Iran’s security forces as the conflict in the region intensifies. Shervin Pishevar, an advisor to Iranian Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, believes these defections could significantly grow in the coming weeks. This comes amidst reports of the Pentagon planning to deploy U.S. ground forces into Iran, a move President Trump has indicated he is considering.

Crown Prince’s Growing Influence

Pishevar highlighted the widespread support for Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi, particularly within the Iranian diaspora. He stated that millions of Iranians have taken to the streets in the past, responding to calls from both President Trump and the Crown Prince. Videos from these protests, he noted, show Iranians chanting Pahlavi’s name, suggesting he is a prominent figure for those seeking change within Iran.

“The proof is in the videos that you see from those protests,” Pishevar said. “The only leader that the Iranian people inside of Iran, not just the diaspora, are calling out for even now… they’re calling out for his name.”

A Plan for a New Iran

Pishevar is an advisor to the Crown Prince’s Iran Prosperity Project. This initiative is detailed in a 175-page plan focused on the reconstruction and rebuilding of a democratic Iran. He emphasized the vast talent pool within Iran’s population of over 93 million people. Pishevar drew parallels to successful Iranian entrepreneurs he has worked with in the tech and venture capital industries, suggesting such talent could create significant value in a free Iran.

“There’s no doubt that there’s a talented population both inside Iran and in the Iranian diaspora,” Pishevar stated. He pointed to individuals who have created trillions of dollars in value at major tech companies, indicating the potential for immense economic growth.

Estimating Defections and Regime Tactics

Prior to the recent escalations, Pahlavi claimed that between 50,000 and 100,000 individuals had defected from Iran’s regime and security forces. Pishevar explained these numbers were gathered from a website created for people to register their defections. He described the current conflict as an “A.I. war with precision, lethality and strikes,” which has targeted the leadership and infrastructure of the regime.

“The hunters have become the hunted,” Pishevar remarked, referring to the Basijis, whom he accused of murdering thousands of Iranians. “This regime is unbelievably evil.”

Reasons for Increased Defections

Pishevar expressed confidence that defections from the military establishment, including the Artesh, Basij, and the IRGC, are set to increase. He believes this is partly because over half of the IRGC members are reportedly working for a paycheck and are experiencing difficulties in getting paid. The ongoing precision warfare, he argued, has crippled the regime’s “infrastructure of terror.”

“So, you’ll see in the weeks ahead what happens,” Pishevar said, anticipating a rise in defections.

Conditions for Public Uprising

Both President Trump and Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi have advised the Iranian people to remain safe and stay home for now. They are waiting for conditions to become favorable for a public uprising, to avoid a repeat of the violent crackdowns seen in January. Pishevar noted that the conditions are improving daily, with reports of drone attacks targeting “murderers” and dismantling the regime’s long-standing “infrastructure of terror and murder and rape.”

“I think those conditions will get better and more optimal for the Iranian people to come out,” Pishevar stated.

Commitment to Regime Change

When asked about President Trump’s commitment to regime change, Pishevar pointed to the scale and precision of the current military operations. He highlighted that Iran’s missile capabilities have been reduced by 90% since the conflict began, suggesting a strong commitment to altering the current regime.

Looking Ahead

The coming weeks will be crucial in observing whether the predicted increase in defections materializes and how it impacts the ongoing conflict. Attention will also be on the conditions on the ground in Iran and whether they become conducive for a broader public movement against the current government.
