Joining the crew on SportsCenter, a beaming Boozer couldn’t contain his elation. “Man, it meant the world,” he expressed when asked about the significance of the win, especially given the intense defensive pressure applied by Virginia throughout the contest. “Obviously, Virginia’s a really good team. Uh, they’re one of the best teams in the country for a reason. And they were physical with us um the whole game. So, we had we knew we had to match that physicality.”
The game was a grueling 40-minute affair, a true test of wills. “We got to play hard the entire game for 40 minutes and it was a battle all night,” Boozer continued. “But this means a lot for us to deal with this adversity in this game and still be able to get the dub.” The victory wasn’t just another trophy for the storied Duke program; it was a validation of their resilience and ability to overcome tough competition.
The Duke Standard: Championships and Legacy
For players like Boozer, committing to Duke means embracing a culture where championships are not just expected, but the standard. “Man, it means the world,” Boozer reiterated when asked about what the ACC tournament title signifies. “You know, obviously since I committed here, um the goal is to win the ACC outright in the regular season, win the ACC championship, and obviously hopefully win a national championship at the end of the year. But, um getting this goal right now to win the ACC championship just means the world.”
A Collective Effort: Boozer, Evans, and the Blue Devils’ Depth
While his brother, J.J. Boozer, may have earned Tournament MVP honors, Cayden Boozer played a crucial role, particularly in the first half. The team’s offensive firepower was on full display, with Isaiah Evans leading the charge with a game-high 20 points. Boozer highlighted the team’s remarkable depth and the ability to rely on different players each night.
“I think it shows how elite our team is,” Boozer stated. “Anyone can go off any day. Uh, I had it going in the first half and Slim had to go in the whole second half. And uh, we know what Cam’s going to be every every night out. So, uh, I think it’s really important that the whole team contributes. And that’s the type of team that we have. Somebody’s going to go off every day. And um, each person is going to contribute into their role. So, I feel like that’s what separates us from other teams.” This balanced offensive attack and commitment to individual roles is a key differentiator for the Blue Devils.
