Miami Heat sharpshooter Duncan Robinson has broken his silence on the controversial incident during a game against the Charlotte Hornets, where he appeared to stand by while his teammates, including a heated exchange involving teammate Duncan Robinson, escalated into a full-blown brawl. Robinson, known for his exceptional three-point shooting, admitted that the optics of his non-involvement were poor and that he understands the narrative that emerged from the situation.

Speaking on the matter, Robinson stated, “That was one of the things that bothered me the most about the Charlotte incident is that it looked and I could see how there could be a narrative outwardly of like, oh, I like left my guy hanging or I didn’t care about Stu or whatever.” He emphasized that his primary concern was to ensure his teammate, referred to as Stu, understood his position and that the incident was not a reflection of his loyalty.

The Heat’s offensive weapon explained his thought process during the chaotic moments, acknowledging that his actions, or lack thereof, were misinterpreted. “I’m also gonna be authentically me, right? And in that moment, I got I got captured. It looked bad. It did, to be honest, right? Like, it didn’t look like I was down for the cause.” Robinson went on to describe his feeling during the altercation, likening it to assisting with a science project. “I felt like it was like helping Bill and I with a science project. Like, he’s got it taken care of. You know what I mean? like there’s there was nothing that I was going to bring to that situation that he wasn’t already handling.”

While Robinson stood by his assessment of his role in the immediate brawl, he expressed significant regret over the consequences that followed, particularly the suspension of his teammate. “The one aspect of it that I wish I do have regret over was and I couldn’t have stopped it but like, you know, I hate not seeing him on the court. So like if I if I could have done something to stop him from you know getting a Miles but he’d obviously made up his mind. There was nothing I was going to do in that moment. Uh but that is the aspect of it that I have regret over like man like to see him miss seven games like obviously it hurts it hurts him it hurts us.”

Robinson believes that such incidents can fuel negative narratives about players, stating, “but it’s also kind of like contributes to that thing I’m talking about earlier of like people want to just talk about him and and like oh he just wants to start [expletive] like that’s that’s not Stew right.” He feels a responsibility to defend his teammates and believes this situation unfairly painted his teammate in a bad light.

Robinson confirmed that he and his teammate, Stu, have discussed the incident privately. “We we spoke about this privately but I this is my first time to really air it out.” The conversation also touched upon the viral nature of the incident, including memes and animated videos that circulated online. When asked if he saw the memes, Robinson confirmed, “He texted me thread about it. You knew you knew right away. Someone made like a full AI animated one. Ste up the other day.” He admitted to seeing some of the social media reactions, including a specific AI-animated meme, which he found humorous despite the seriousness of the situation.
